Dobby and the Habs Defeat the Stars in Dallas

I still find it 200% crazy that our fans are willing to sign the vets and let the kids "cook" in the AHL for 3 more years It's like our fans did not learn anything from the last 30 years. Hope KH is a better GM than that. This team needs upgrade and it wont come from the UFA market and nobody will trade an elite player for guys drafted in the 2nd/3rd round unless you show them at the NHL level.

If you told me at the start of last year that we should extend Armia I would have laughed in your face. Hope he extends for something reasonable.
I talked about the possibility towards the end of last season. At the time I said "I don't want to trade this Armia" and if he plays the same way next season we would have a decision to make on him. It was his play last season that turned our PK numbers around.

What a wagon hockey team.

This is one of the games I've watched recently where I felt it was stolen.. and that's fine. We were due to have one and Dallas is probably the best team we've played. Just a solid hockey team.

Good to see Slaf and Newy get some G's. They needed them the most out of anyone I think.

Dobes.. what else can I say? 4 wins against incredible teams all on the road. Not to make this negative but if Primeau plays, it's 4 automatic L's. That's just the truth.
Stealing is fine. Shutting down the home team with 10+ min remaining is very good. This is how it’s done. The Stars were missing a lot of firepower and still played well but as the game went on the balance of power shifted because it started working for the Habs who played scrappy but honest.

I don’t think either Slaf or Newhook had good games but getting on the scoreboard surely can’t hurt their psychology so that’s good in a way.

We’re in an interesting spot right now. Red hot but still only jockeying for a wild card spot. What will we look like when we lose? Where are our fault lines — scoring, defense, goaltending, tactics, morale, special teams, or something else ?

f*** .. what a run we're having!

I'm cautiously optimistic that this IS what the REAL montreal canadiens are... fast, hard hitting, never giving up, dominant hockey... and it's f***ing beautiful!

hutson starting to run away with the Calder race.. just consistent great hockey... it cannot be overstated how much he has changed our team and our future. kids is a special one

Dobes is also just dominant atm.. who knows if he can keep it up for longer periods than not.. but he's making me very comfortable about our net.

Slafsquatch doing Slafsquatch things! beautiful to see... he's gonna be just fine. in his prime he is also gonna be unstoppable!

f*** me... its just so much fun watching the team they are building and the philosophies they are playing by... Gorton & Hughes have done a great job and Marty is also emerging as one hell of a coach!

I read an article about a month or so ago where Marty said something to the effect of the boys were having a hard to understanding his systems and defensive philosophies so he worked at it and found a better way to relate it to the guys.. and shortly after we started seeing things really click... I think that is a very positive foreshadowing of a coach who is only gonna get better and better himself as he is able to reflect on himself and say "ok how do I become a better coach for this team and for the best of my players" ... i think it's a sign of a bright f***ing future!

so happy with this team, top to bottom!

.. I mean I wouldn't miss a couple of the guys ... but I'm not gonna a nit pick after the total team effort run were on lol

We still need veterans on the team. I don't expect Reinbacher to be a shot-blocker or a locker room leader on his first year.

But yeah, it's more likely that they won't be here next season.
We still need kids too. Need a top 4 RH dman. Need a 2nd line center. Need a top 6 winger (Demidov) . Likely at least a bottom 6 player or two. This team has not arrived yet and anyone who believe so if a fool imo.

I wish we were getting some sort of help from the Out of Town Scoreboard but it's good motivation to keep rolling.
If this keeps up, it’ll be a fun race to the finish. I’ve really missed scoreboard watching in playoff races. Outside of the Covid season where teams were losing their way into playoff spots in the Canadian division, I don’t think the Habs have been in any exciting races in over 10 years. Maybe 2018/19. That’s what made the Gainey era entertaining.

I'm expecting our team next year to be:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Heineman - Evans - Newhook
Anderson - Beck - Gallagher

Hutson - Matheson
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Reinbacher

What a game by Dobes. They kind of stole the game, but they've also been more on the receiving end of those.

Armia was great. Evans as well.

Newhook is starting to look better, so the team is finally getting something that actually ressembles a second line.

I thought Slaf looked really, really good. Like, better than last year even. He's had a string of good games, so hopefully he's back.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but this reminds me of 2007-2008 and 2003-2004, when those teams found a gear and never let up until the end.

It will really depend where they end up at the end of the year. First, they need to make the post-season, then the real season will happen and we'll sift through who needs to stay and who needs to go. They can't go with too many rookies next year however in key roles. We saw what happened with the defense and it doesn't help anyone on the team. As far as I'm concerned, Evans would be my priority. Armia I'm wary, as he's so up/down and could be an anchor contract. When he's on, he's worth another two year deal due to his defense, his play on the PK and his size. Dvorak will leave because he doesn't seem to want to play here, even though he's doing a decent job defensively and feeding his wingers. I'm not sure if he's what MSL is looking for though. As far as Savard goes, Reinbacher's injury has derailed the plan a bit. I think it was probably his spot, now I'm not sure what they'll do, but they'll need an insurance for the third spot. For now, Matheson and Carrier have locked up the first two right spots.

Suzuki, Evans, Armia, Savard & Matheson just shut it down last 2 minutes. 2 timeouts gave them time to rest. The 3 best defensive players out in the final stretch. That's coaching.

Gutsy win that was ugly at times, but they pulled it out because they never stopped working.

Dobes was fantastic. Armia was a beast. #1 line was solid. #2 line came through with offense again.

Gallagher, Dvorak & Pezzetta are being left behind by this team.

It doesn't get any easier. They get one day off then play a back-to-back which starts a 5 games in 8 days run. At least majority of it is at home.
Suzuki has been quietly amazing lately. He deserved his two apples just as much as Armia deserved his 100th.

Amen finally someone who see this clearly imo. If it's not beck it will be Kapanen. And in the unlikelihood it's neither of them who cares it's a 4th line center KH will find a stop gap. But if Olivier Kapanen doesn't sign in Europe and accept to play in the AHL i highly doubt KH will want two 22 and 21½ years old center sharing duty in the AHL he'll want only one in the AHL unless they both terribly suck which is not likely imo. I think they'll probably want to give Reinbacher some time in the AHL though so maybe KH will try to sign a vet RHD on a 1 year contract.

I think Reinbacher is going to comeback in end of Feb and finish the year in the AHL give him a few months then playoffs. After that I think he'll make the jump next year

But I've also been a Reinbacher fan longer than most and wanted him most of the year before his draft. So I may have a higher opinion of him than others on the board.
