Do you want to see Ryane Clowe traded?

I personally don't unless it's a great package. Depth never hurts.

I'm fine either way. I really like him and think he brings a unique element to the sharks but his skating has been a detriment in todays speedy NHL. If they get a couple serious prospects and or a first round pick, I think you have to trade him considering you will most likely lose him in the next 2 months.

If they had played well all year he's the type of player (minus the cement skates) that they would be looking to trade for at the deadline so keeping him for a run this year could prove to be a good decision. If they keep him and they somehow win the cup it will look like a genius move. If they go out in 4 games or miss the playoffs it will be a pretty big set back for the organization. I like him on the 3rd line with pavs but that's a lot of slow to put together. I fear what will happen when they face a team that has a really fast 3rd line or when they get matched up against a fast 1st or 2nd line on the road.

CLowe put on a good show tonight though so he's probably only increasing his trade value which will make it harder for DW to justify keeping him.

Is there anyone with the org right now that they can bring up to legit help on the bottom 2 lines if they do trade clowe?

No matter what happens this year I don't think he's on the roster next season.

1. He is at the moment a quality third liner on a championship team, so... play him there or trade him for the right offer.

He is a career second liner who just isn't scoring anymore. I don't care about that because he brings enough other assets to be worthy of any team wanting to make a cup run.

Emotionally, no, I don't want to trade him... But let's be reality, some team will offer him way more $$$ than the sharks in the off season and he us definitely gone

Even if they need him as a crucial 3rd liner for this year, I think DW HAS to trade him to an eastern team, even if it's just for a single pick/prospect... And hope that he eventually re-signs with an eastern conference team

Nope. I like him too much. I know there are better, but I'm thinking with my heart on this one. No apologies.

Same here. We'll need him to hoist this year.
With Cranky gone, who's our enforcer? Boyle, Desi?

His offense isn't that horrible. Sure no goals, but 10 assists is more than Marleau...
He contributes and would make any team better, why not SJ.
Plus, he rag-dolled Allen...

Because he is going to walk for nothing in the off-season and he's really not doing us much good right now. Enforcers are meaningless in the playoffs anyway.

Wilson is going to get hugely overpaid for Clowe after what Pit just did, it's going to be hilarious. It's important to the long term future of this team too.

Everything hinges on whether Clowe should and will be re-signed. I don't think he should be and thus, DW should trade him for something now rather than let him walk away for nothing.

As it stands now, Sheppard could fill Clowe's roll on the 3rd line just fine so it's not like we'd lose much if Clowe was traded.

why do we need an enforcer? detroit never carried an enforcer on there cup teams, it was about making the team pay the hard way if you want to play rough.

heck once detroit started carrying a enforcer on a regular basis they started dipping in the standings and not doing to well in the playoffs lol.

the sharks don't really need clowe either, we have the pieces as it stands right now to play a good game without him. so whatever pieces he actually fetches in a trade is all that much better.

If DW cannot re-sign Clowe before the trade deadline (no idea if they have been pushing for it or not) then they should definitely try to trade him pending a good return.

I just think it's about time we got a 1st round pick and/or prospect in return for giving a pending UFA to another team for 13-15 games plus playoffs.

Hmmmm. Maybe. I seem to remember the Sharks getting manhandled by the Blues in the 1st round last year, but, we did nothing about it anyway, except hit the links.
You may be right, if the value is good. I'd like to see him stay, at a lower price if possible, but stay nonetheless. Purely a gut feeling for me. no nuclear physics here. (Jux) :sarcasm:

We lost to the blues because we didn't know how to play around the trap. We played a super passive system and let them have all the time and space in the world in the defensive zone and help at the blueline and tried to grind and cycle in the offensive zone. Which played perfectly into the Blues system and they trounced us, exactly as a lot of us predicted.

Right now, these last two games (and the first 7) we are playing the right system to beat the Blues, and if we play like we played against Anaheim, we will beat them. Aggressive fore-check, fast pressure on the puck carrier at all times, score on the rush and stretch passes. That is how you defeat the trap, and the Sharks have done that brilliantly the last two games.

The Sharks lost to the Blues because of special teams, no? I think they actually outscored the Blues at ES...

Yeh, totally agree. You can see the difference as compared to the lengthy slump. This is how we MUST play to advance in the playoffs. Our team looks soooo much better and add in a couple positive smaller changes in benching both Handzus and Burish, that has done nothing short of setting our bottom 6. They should be moved in any way possible, even a 6th/7th round pick or part of some package. If no deal available, they don't play, period.

With Clowe, wouldn't mind a re-sign at lower dollars but, I think we all know he will not go this route. He will get much more either via free agency or via a trade then sign.

Our special teams were awful, we had to outscore them at ES to even have a chance, and it's not like we did that either. We scored 5 ES goals, 2 PP goals and 1 4 on 4 goal. Blues scored 7 ES, 6 PP.

We got rocked in every department.

There's something I'm confused about: reports are saying that he has a NTC. But I swear I thought it was Clowe who said something like "yea, I have no control over things, and maybe that's for the better because they're not talking to you and don't have it on your mind...if it happens it happens". Or was that Murray?

EDIT: I voted yes, only if we get a good return. If we can get a good prospect or high pick as part of the deal. Clowe is one of my all-time favorite players, but when you're "resetting and refreshing" you gotta break some eggs....

So it was fairly even at ES (6 vs 7). Of course that requires context, but the glaring number to me is that 6 vs 2 on the PP.

I will again stress the importance of the Sharks being able to beat teams multiple ways. Perhaps the kind of quick transition game works against Anaheim or St. Louis, but it won't work against other teams. There are teams that are simply better than the Sharks playing the same type of game; SJ cannot go head-to-head vs. them.

We just did against Anaheim. Playing a conservative prevent system like they were is going to get them beaten by just about any playoff team. Beating multiple ways is one thing, but that system they were using is worthless.

Don't just go pure goals. Look at possession which is generally known by the shotclock (exception when the other team takes an early lead). Score-tied Corsi obviates the issue and generally gives a more complete view of who dominated (behindthenet even uses 5on5 alone to take out the imbalance when a team has a very dominant PP). PP play becomes less meaningful as the playoffs progress as the Sharks have learned.

The Sharks have eschewed transition for quite a long time. And, it isn't black and white. Going transition doesn't mean throw caution to the wind. A team can do transition as well as being cautious (see Nashville). Any team can use a mix of PP, cycle and transition scoring. Vancouver was extreme in using both when they were riding high. The Sedins provided their cycle and all other lines used transition.

Lost in the SW!
A couple of things about trading Clowe. With Murray gone Clowe is probably our best tough guy, we lose him and Murray we'd be a pretty soft team. Who else can effectively stick up for the skill players if they are taken advantage of. He's also pretty a pretty good grinder / player along the boards which every team / line needs for the playoffs. Hard to replace that on a team today with a draft pick or prospect in return for him, who on the current roster can do this??

Zero goals this year is a problem as he should have 4 to 6 by now for sure. I'd still make a deal for him for full value. Players to replace him would be best instead of picks/prospects.

Desjardins and Burish can all scrap, just not very good at it. Clowe wasn't winning a lot of puck battles until he came back.

We need youth, not other vet players. Koko or Leblanc are great options because they offer both.

We have Adam Burish, that was supposed to be his job, make him do it. Also most of our skill players stick up for themselves just fine, I'm not concerned about being soft.

Make no mistake, this team without Murray and Clowe is pretty damn soft. There is an element of team toughness and grit, but you also don't want your skill guys doing too much heavy lifting either. The bottom 6 is cottonball soft.....Gomez, Shep, Galiardi, Handzus, etc. Desi is a good middleweight. Burish shouldn't be counted on...for much of anything at this point (though he's a candidate to step up in the POs).

What about Couture? Does anyone on the Sharks get pushed around as much as he does? Without Clowe around to have his back Couture is going to be run even more.

Desi and Burish can fight if needed, but they're middleweights who are only going to be on the ice a few minutes a game...can't provide an immediate response. If the Sharks trade Clowe, it would be nice if they got a decent player back to address this need or at least get to it in the offseason.
