It’s game 78 and this guy still can’t figure out the lines. It’s obvious what works and what doesn’t.

It's really impressive how good he is at f***ing up a team. A team that was so consistent for the whole season, and now he has every one of the big 4 going into the playoffs cold or on a cold streak.

Even Marner who was having a great season, he decides to put him on whatever line that's struggling. What a dumb strategy.. Now even Marner is hitting a cold streak right on time for the playoffs. So dumb.

If Tampa wins, it’s likely going to be result of Keefe messing up the match ups, and his input on the Leafs PP.

To be fair, he has a few big name players that he has to hide and protect in the playoffs.

I don’t mind line experiments but Keefe’s experiments aren’t the most ideal ones.

Bunting, Matthews and Jarnkrok? Matthews hasn’t really driven play all season long but let’s try to have him drive play with two career third line players?

If you’re going to experiment with your lines, there needs to be a purpose. Looking at last nights lineup, who would you throw out against Kucherov and Point? It sure as hell wouldn’t be that Matthews line… Nylander, Tavares and Marner? Nylander and Tavares aren’t your ideal defensive forwards… Kerfoot, O’Reilly and Acciari? Love Acciari but if he’s playing a shutdown role against Kuch and Point, we’re f***ed.

He’s about 2 weeks away from being fired. He’s absolutely clueless with line management and any in game adjustments.
From a pure entertainment standpoint, would the circus around losing game 7 to TB be better than finally winning a round?

If we get good goaltending in a big game here = Keefe is a hero.

If we get the usual softies + sub .900 again = it's Keefes fault.

We are are living the "show me a great coach and I'll show you a great goalie" reality.

The real question is whether or not Samsonov is finally that playoff goalie we have been looking for.

Don't hate him, don't love him. People complaining about consistent lines when we had so many injuries, and trades is kinda dumb. The coaching staff wants to keep their jobs, they want to win. They are not pulling names out of a hat.

I think they are at a point they know what their lines are, however if/when the team is not playing well or has injuries during the playoffs they will have lines they know that can work based on many variations.

Last night was a pretty good game. In my eyes it was players lack of execution that was the issue during high scoring chances. Last night could of went either way.

No, we win in spite of him. Also, there is a certain hubris with this guy, there’s thinking out of the box and then there is just thinking you’re smarter than everyone else. What he’s doing with the lines, at this point in the season, it’s just silly and pretty much every former player who follows the team agrees.

And I don’t know how anyone could possibly vote YES here, I mean the guy has been out coached three years in a row. Luckily our guys have matured enough and the depth is so much better, we can do it despite him.

Has he ever given anybody any reason to trust him during a playoff series?

He's the man that decided to put Nylander at center in a series deciding game against Columbus after he had played him at wing for the entire season

That is still one of the stupidest and unnecessary decisions I've ever seen from any coach
Good decision making under pressure is vital, he hasn't shown that

and also decided to dress a player who hadn't played a game in something like 6 months in the same deciding game

Can someone fill me in on the Keefe hate?

He’s been an awesome coach.

I want to see if this works, before game 1

Bunting-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Matthews-Jarnkrok
Kerfoot-O'Reilly-Nylander
Zar-Kampf/Lafferty-Acciari/Lafferty

So line 3 you could figure out starting yesterday.

Line 2 you can't figure out for a few days.

You also still don't have your 4th line figured out it looks like.

Now it is game 79 and YOU don't have your lines figured out.

I thought it was obvious what works and what doesn't.

I just am trying to point out, I don't think that our lineup is black and white, and ROR getting injured threw a big wrench into setting things early.

I know for a fact Keefe’s lines don’t work. But with my lines I know for a fact:

Matthews-Jarnkrok have chemistry. Matthews can cary a line.

Bunting-Tavares-Marner have chemistry.

Nylander and Kerfoot have chemistry. And O’Reilly should work on that line.

The 4th line is clear. You pick 3 of ZAR, Kampf, Lafferty, and Acciari. I don’t care which 3.

Nope

Leafs were the favourites with home ice advantage in all 3 series to boot.
And it wasn’t like he did everything right and the Leafs just lost to a better team. He made questionable decisions and failed to prepare the team properly for an elimination game.

Like a poster said earlier, Leaf’s will have to win in spite of him, not because of him.

No. I hope to be proven wrong, but his track record suggests that he will overthink situations and make poor decisions regarding player personnel.

We can still beat Tampa Bay, but it will take a monumental effort from our players, particularly Samsonov.

Im curious, what do you think that preparation for an elimination game should have been?

2020 - lost to Columbus
2021 - lost to Montreal after blowing a 3-1 series lead
2022 - lost to Tampa after blowing a 3-2 series lead

I don't hate him, but he's been far from awesome in the postseason. He's done nothing but lose

Maybe I'm just a Keefe apologist but when I look at all three of these series I just look at a few things:

Columbus series was all on bad goaltending IMO

Montreal series was all on the Matthews/Marner/Hyman line, only 2 goals between them the entire series sunk us.

The Tampa series is another one, I don't know what I would have changed other than an extra save from Campbell and the officiating not being total trash. All the big guns came through IMO.

I do 100% agree though that it's a results based business but I haven't left any series thinking Keefe was the reason we lost. Game 5 vs the Jackets is probably his biggest coaching blunder in that stretch, but that entire series was dumb considering the pandemic etc.

We'll have to wait and see again I guess.

You want your coach to have you in a position to win. In all those game 7's we made bad mental blunders from a position of strength to lose and didnt convert on a number of opportunities we had. Tough to put that on the coach IMO
