Do you think we should try the Swedes in top 4 roles to start 22 - 23 season?

I feel like we should better assess them before we make an attempt to improve the blueline I personally feel like they both will take big steps next season (especially if Sandin can add some muscle)I feel they will be our future top pair and maybe much sooner than people think which is the best way for our blueline to improve everyone else on it is either on a decline or just stagnant

no because that means one of Brodie or Muzzin comes out of the top 4 and that's insane

So what? Brodie will be 33 by round 3/4 next year. His defence is mediocre now. The last time he did something useful was around november 2021. Letting Nick Paul walk in and score was definition of everything wrong with our D in second half of season.

Muzzin I like but his body seems done.

Free up this cap and see if dubas can come up with something. That's a lot of money to work with.

he's going to be 33 so what? can he still play top 4? yes he can

are either Lily or Sandin better than him right now?

no they aren't

so why should they play above him?

they shouldn't

Muzzin I'm a little more open to because he does seem to be hurting but moving him does create a giant hole in the top 4

Well my ideal plan is free up muzzin and brodie cap space and use Sandin to bring in young Jakob Chychrun to fix our problem of having pathetic shots from the point.

I keep hearing how Dubas is a genius so let him do some work for once with that cap space back, fixing our defensive issues of being too weak around the net and along the boards (what remains after jakob trade + muzzin/kerfoot/holl etc gone).

Lilijgren should be given a shot in a top 4 role.

If he works he can be a secondary core support piece moving forward, similar to hjalmarsson, Martinez were for the Hawks and kings (not that I expect that much success for the leafs)

Sandin I think needs to have a hig year if he wants to prove he's part of the core. We have another skilled PP QV type D coming in niemela who while is a RHS he has similar high end passing and vision as Sandin which makes him a bit redundant

Muzzin and Brodie and Gio are here for two more years each so it seems pretty sure that he won't be a top 4D until then in terms of usage. He just needs to become a top4D caliber player so that way he can be used in case any LTIR or unexpected moves occur two those 3

Rielly is the only D-man who should be here as long as he wants.

Everyone else could be moved based on role/age/contract/value to progress the contention years etc.

Man your the first person I've seen who called out Brodie for vetting walked by Nick Paul

I didn't watch game 7 but when I saw the highlights a few weeks later I was simply astonished how crapply Brodie defende that.

Even in the reg season noticed Brodies defense wasn't as consistent as last year.

Yeah Campbell could have saved that but the shot was easily surpressable and to let Paul get into the slot when your supposed to be our best defensive defenseman in game 7 deserves to be talked more

I rather not trade them to then turn around and trade Sandin and others to get Jakob id rather trade the first two and sign a manson to pair with rielly

Round 1 especially game 7 made it obvious we can't ignore not having a point shot any more. Our D is very flawed regardless what the xGA says and Jakob is top tier when it comes to getting shots off from the point. If you want top tier skills you need to pay up. Sandin is good but he's not elite in any one category.

My philosophy is obtain top tier talent and worry about the rest after because the rest is easier to figure out. Guys like Manson and Brodie you can get from good timing but how do you add a Chychrun to your team?

Just one would cover Chych's modest salary.

If he can play the right side as rumored then he could be that coveted 1RD for a long time, or move behind Rielly and replace aging Muzzy.

Would cost a lot more than Sandin though.

Draft and develop that means givin the guys with the potential room to grow into the players you need not over paying to get them

Sandin skillset does not match up to Jakobs. Draft and develop is also so you have the means to acquire prime assets when they become available and not live in poverty

For sure but good to know we can at least be in the hunt using sandin as the centerpiece.
