Do you think we should try the Swedes in top 4 roles to start 22 - 23 season?

I feel like we should better assess them before we make an attempt to improve the blueline I personally feel like they both will take big steps next season (especially if Sandin can add some muscle)I feel they will be our future top pair and maybe much sooner than people think which is the best way for our blueline to improve everyone else on it is either on a decline or just stagnant

Reactions: sittler rules!!!
Tampa going to the finals for a 3rd consecutive year with a top 4 of Hedman 6'6" 241, McDonagh 6'1" 215, Sergachev 6'3" 216 and Cernak 6'3" 230.

Rielly 6'1" 220, Brodie 6'1" 179, Lily 6'1" 192, and Sandin 5'11" 178.

One team wins cups, the other loses in round #1. Willing to bet the solution is not to get smaller, lighter and softer on D.

Giordano Holl
Sandin

No point in trading guys away now only to spends assets at the deadline to get a top 4 dman.

Keep the 7 bc injuries happen.

Top pair is a stretch but future top 4 no doubt.

I have no idea why Liljegren wasn't used in place of Holl in the last 3 games of the series with Tampa. He's the better d man.
Keefe deserves reprimand for that.
Maybe to stats we're showing lili was struggling? My eyes said he was doing better than Holl though

I'm not sure on the weights of Lilli and sandin. Lilli has visibly more bulk on him and that's his listed weight at draft time no?
Brodie is smart and skilled and seems to handle a heavy forecheck as well as any top 4 could.
Agreed on sandin but I would posit he needs more strength not necessarily size. Strength will prevent injuries and allow him to be better in front of our net and against a good cycling team

If Liljegren isn't playing top 4 beside Gio, there is a big problem.

Sandin might still need to find a fit
Why is it a problem in Gio and lili are playing to 4?
Not saying it's the best but they seem to have good chemistry

Liljegren yes, Sandin no

Assuming Muzz, and at least one of Holl/Bush (please no more Bush) are gone I'd look at something like:

Rielly-Brodie
Gio-Liljegren
Sandin-Holl/New guy

Unless the new guy is Hedman, I'd be willing to bet everything we do not get out of the first round with that D.

Ya I know but I don't believe they are accurate. I've felt this way for a while.
I could be wrong but Lilli spicfically has bulked up since he was drafted.
That said size IMHO is not as important as strength and smarts when it comes to defending hence the primary reasons I think Tim is better than holl then add he has better tools than Holl and it seems a no brainer

So much depends upon the rest of the blueline. Realistically, I think the answer at best might be either of them, and not both.

Would you rather go into the corner for 7 games against Hedman and Sergachev or Rielly and Brodie ?? Size, weight and strength all matter IMO.

Don't get me wrong, individually our dmen are very good, but they won't work as a group. When you build an orchestra, violins are great but you also need a couple chellos and basses. ;)

Hedman is on another level with his physical gifts. He's naturally just a giant and to a lessor extent sergachev, whom I love to death and would love him on this team.
If I were to list them
Hedman quite obviously
Rielly
Sergachev he's still young and might surpass Rielly but not yet imo
I feel Rielly has improved along the boards and in front of the net.
Brodie I have zero issues. I would also place him above sergachev atm because he plays very clean defense and seldom makes mistakes. Again the possibility is there for sergachev to pass with time and given his size and skills will be a stud d man for Tampa.
My choice would obviously be to have a top 4 of Hedman Rielly sergachev and Brodie hahahaha but to answer your question, I go with Hedman sergachev but that's because Hedman is another teir than we have and makes up for the difference of our 2 over sergachev.

To that I do agree that size and weight matter but I still put strength above it. Now naturally size usually equals strength but not always, hence my differentiation between them.

Liljegren absolutely belongs in the top 4, I would run

Rielly - Brodie
Giordano - Liljegren

Assuming we don't acquire another top D man

Bottom pair I'd like to give Sandin a legitimate shot and maybe rotate Lyubushkin/Holl if he's not traded

Ship Muzzin out for cap relief, he's still a good player but clearly declining and very expensive for us

Surely it will be Rielly paired with someone who doesn't belong on the top pair. And then a newly recaptured Marincin pairing Holl.

Leafs outplayed TB.
