Do you think we should trade rielly before his no trade clause kicks in this off season ?

he wasn’t playing top pair minutes as I believe that was muzzin and Brodie and at 7.5 million much like our captains 11 million we shouldn’t have to find partners for them to excel might as well trade him for 2 competent defenders who can actually play defence that is the job description of a defencemen isn’t it?

That would be the ultimate nut punch. Just have max commitment at a likely slightly discounted price VS what he could have gotten on the open market

Brodie, Rielly and Muzzin were all close in TOI/G. While Brodie and Muzzin are superior defensively, Rielly is still the team's best option for offence from the blueline. Expecting two defenders in return for him would either involve acquiring lesser players, or at least one player that is currently more 'potential' than 'proven'.

Idea's like this are examples people use to show how dumb our fan base is.
What’s dumb is I hear people complain about an offence player that does his job and creates offence but then criticizes someone for calling out a defensive player that doesn’t do his. Rielly is not a #1 period I would much rather have a trouba type defender KEYWORD defender that actually plays defence did you even watch the series against Tampa? I’m sure you just tuned in to the highlights and read about the points and didn’t bother to actually watch how him and Ilya were getting hemmed in there zone a-lot bud

There’s not a player in the league you’d move him for?
I like Rielly but like the rest of them he’s not untouchable.

Depends on the return. Odds are there isn’t a deal that makes sense.

Plus Rielly just signed his extension a few months ago.

There isn’t a big fish in free agency to go over and I don’t know if there’s anyone fitting that description in a trade available

Exactly, Rielly is NOT a true number one defense-man. He is NOT great defensively and has NO SHOT from the point. He can certainly skate and can jump up offensively, but that's it.

Having said the above, I still would NOT trade him unless the return was a CLEAR WIN for our Leafs.

It really gets on my nerves when fellow Leaf fans call other Leaf fans dumb for having a difference of opinions on the REAL skills of our players. Fan-boys seem to focus on the player and NOT the logo on the front of the jersey.

Sure, Rielly is good, but he is far from being a true number one defense-man. It's great that some Leaf fans can recognize this and can be objective about it.

JMHO.

While a good GM would listen to all options when presented, he certainly wouldn't be shopping him.,

The GM just gave him an 8 year $60 mil deal SIGNING DATE: Oct. 29, 2021, so he certainly isn't intending on trading him any time soon.

Rielly is the Leafs best Dman.

Yes folks… this is what the main boards are on about when trashing the Maple Leafs and their fans.

Why would you trade your #1D and the only guy who took a discount to remain a Leaf ?? Love that Tavares chose to come home, but he should have taken less money for the good of the team and himself as he is now in the crosshairs for not living up to the AAV and the failures of the team he captains. The 3 amigos took every penny and should be the first to go but not until you bring in a competent GM.

Unfortunately if da real deal is correct and the sponsors prefer to keep this management team, then only an embarrassing regular season will get the same sponsors to put pressure on MLSEL to make changes.
