If your scout tells you that a goalie is going to be the best player in the draft you fire him.
No one knows nothing when it comes to goalies.

to my knowledge its the worst draft since the current format was adopted... if anyone knows about worse than that one, please correct meOh my god is that ever terrible.
The best two players I see are Briere and Chara. Kaberle as well, I suppose, but still... Briere has really fallen off, and Chara developed late. Wow. Awful, awful draft. Is that the worst in modern history?
yes, its jst a matter of time until some 6'8+ 300lbs genetic freak chose to be a goalie instead of playing football.
thats why I've said Potential... if I look at history, the 2 GL that were picked 1st overall DiPietro and Fleury, are far from being best of all time GL.... not even sure if one of the two will be in the HHOFThing about that is Roy went in the 3rd round and Hasek in the 10th. Scouts have a really, really difficult time projecting goalies.

With goaltenders tending to bloom in their mid-20's, theres no reason to draft them high, unless they're unquestionable to be a generational talent goaltender. And even then...a lot of Habs fans at the time felt such a high pick was wasted on Price.
I remember that. Price has proven the doubters wrong, but the fears at the time were not unfounded. Also, with only 60 NHL goaltending jobs available, it's hard to break in.
Nope, never again. In fact, the NHL timeline will break down into BMAF and AMAF (before and after Marc Andre Fleury) whence goalies were taken first overall and afterwards never again.
That's a pretty rough generalisation considering that there have only been three goalies ever taken first overall in an NHL entry draft:
1968 - Michel Plasse (Montreal Canadiens)
2000 - Rick DiPietro (New York Islanders)
2003 - Marc-Andre Fleury (Pittsburgh Penguins)
