Do you still believe in Canada's chance to win gold ...

Right now Canada is a sleeping giant.
They just need to wake up. Who knows what'll happen.

But when you have this much talent on 1 team, my inclination is to never give up hope on them. I think we'll see a better team @ crunch time.

Anyone speaking in definates is foolish. Canada has a chance to win the gold medal. Canada also has a chance to lose in the quarterfinals. Canada hasn't looked great, but neither have the Czechs or the US or the Swedes for the most part. But all those teams can win as well.

They have a chance just like anyone else, but why must they always do it the hard way? :help:

Amen. I think Salt Lake was a bad example for those guys. It proved that you can play like crap during the group stage (ok, we were half decent against the Czechs) and still win gold. I'm sure the guys aren't panicked right now (perhaps they should be?) because they think they can turn it up any time they want. I don't think we've seen Team Canada yet. Let's hope so.

Yes, Canada will still win gold over Russia. The preliminary rounds don't mean anything. If I am wrong, I hope someone shoves this post in my face and mocks me.

I thought they did, but now, I don't think so. not because of the players, but from the lack of chemistry that teams such as the Finns and Swiss have that we don't.

:biglaugh: @ Thread.

Maybe they should just pack it in, I mean they obviously have no chance to win after losing two unimportant games. I bet all of the other teams are saying "Man, I hope we draw Canada in the quarters! It's like a bye!"

Canada will win.
Losing two "exhibition" games prior to the real portion of the tourney will wake them up in time to win three in a row, starting on Wednesday.
Those who are writing Canada off at this point have not learned from the past.

Canada is still the big favorites. Its almost a rule that the bad teams in the group round plays well later and the good teams chokes.

This hould be called the band wagon posts.
All the same people crying that Canada isn't good enough to win,
yet the first guys in the streets celebrating when they do
It's like de ja vu of 2002

Canada's chances are just as good as they were at the beginning of the tournament. They are far from a sure thing because there are 6 other awfully good teams standing in the way, but the losses in the preliminary round mean nothing. Remember Salt Lake? How about the Czechs in last year's World Cup? They were absolutely awful in the round robin and everyone counted them out, but as soon as the elimination round started they were a new team and even outplayed Canada (who had completely dominated everyone up to that point), despite losing in overtime.

Canada has a better chance than most because they have more talent than most. If the team comes together, any team will have a tough time beating them. If they don't, then they could well be flying home after the quarterfinals.

But you know full well that NO team wants to face Canada in the quarters.

basically the real part of this tourny is a competition to see who can win three tough games in a row.

I'm not any more worried than I was last week.

OK, so I am wrong about the gold medal opponent, but they'll still win gold.
