Do you believe in Frederik Andersen? Would you re-sign?

I wouldn't go that far. Almost every goalie in the division has a SV% below .900 because nobody in the division plays any defense. He also faces <27 shots per game this year which deflates his save percentage relative to when he was facing 30+ shots. He's only really lost us the Ottawa game and almost the Montreal game. I'd rather not retain him next season though.
Are we really going to say his shots are down so it hurts him? His numbers were bad last year with higher shots against.

Do you guys believe in Freddy? I feel he is way out of position (especially when recovering for rebounds) and generally the worst goalie on the ice. He's rocking his sub .900 save % while Campbell is a rocking a .923 save % with the same D.

He looks to me like he's declining, and I definitely do not want him as our starter moving forward with him being a UFA and looking for a payday this offseason, not to mention his playoff collapses in big games. It's almost guaranteed he'll give at least 1 bad goal (usually more) in every big playoff game.

I know the Leafs get a lot of blame for their defence, but I think a big part of why it's looked so bad in the past was every decent chance would be a goal, making the defence look worse.

What are your thoughts on him?
Nope.

I probably would've pull the trigger on his this past off season.

0 faith in him for when the playoffs starts. A fluke bad series is one thing, but 3 in a row is unacceptable. Game 7 against Boston in 2018 was the worst big game goaltending performance I can remember. 2019, he was better but gave up the typical softy goal. Game 5 against CBJ, same thing. Loss can't be put on him but he gave up a back breaking softy to Footie (prob spelled wrong).

He just doesn't have it.

Every goalie has a worse cumulative save percentage in games that they face =<29 shots vs games that they face =>30 shots. It's not specific to Andersen. He played worse last year and had better numbers.

I there really any better options? I don't mind Freddy but it's weird he hasn't got any better since we got him. The slow start every year is getting tired fast to.

I just look at his career in both Anaheim and Toronto and he' s been pretty consistant in what his numbers are, both in SA and starts.
He just appears to have suffered a regression.

I don't disagree that's he worse now than two years ago, but his play isn't as mediocre as his stats. Even in Anaheim he had a better save percentage when he faced 30+ shots.

How should we be judging goaltenders?

Two of those goals last night weren't on him, but he could've hugged the post tighter on the first one. He was swimming in his crease on a couple of near misses as well. Not a great game, but he played well enough for us to win.
That 3rd goal isn't a good one either. I get its a good shooter in a dangerous location but that's exactly what I see when Freddy is off, a goalie that's guessing.

No screen, no quick movement setting up the shot just a straight one-on-one with the shooter. Look closely at the goal, Miller shoots it pretty much into the middle of the net without Freddy even getting a piece of it. He guessed high glove and when it went towards the short side he basically jumped out of the way of a shot that should have just hit him.

Not good enough last night. Why does he disengage in games? I am going to side with the posters sick of the soft goals that lack the focus your #1 goalie should have. Gets kind of disgusting that i always have his back and then he coasts through a game. I’m starting to wonder why i make myself look bad having his back all the time. But i will continue having his back anyway. He’s got to f***** focus better.
The players work their sack off to keep the shots down and focus on defensive play for him and he plays with no spirit. B.S.

He looked very shakey last night against Vancouver and was swimming in his net particularly in the early part of the game and let in some soft goals.

At this point I'm 50/50 if he should be resigned or not.

Not sure he is the goalie to get us to the promised land and what we need to hoist a Cup particularly in an non Covid world and full normal season again.

I think in my mind Freddy have been below average all year. He had a couple games in Alberta where I would say he gave our team a better shot to win than they deserved, but by no means stole 2 pts for the club. In recent years, I was dreading the impending departure of Freddy, because truth be told, he was/is on a great deal and he has been the best Leaf goalie since Eddie. That is fact. We spent over 10 years trying to find a quality, reliable goalie. For those who hate freddy, lets not forget the Monster's, Scrivens, Reimers, Berniers, Giggy's, raycroft's, and the he who shall not be named..**cough Toskala cough **. Toronto was a goalie graveyard for years, largely because the teams in front of them. But it takes a unique player to be able to handle Toronto's market. Freddy has been that guy for the last 4+ seasons. I still think we can rely on Freddy. Sure he is not the goalie who used to steal games for us, and do not mistake that. He stole points for us in his first 2 seasons. That said, He didn't do that at all last year, and he is not trending that way this year either. To me, Freddy's value has to be no greater than 5mil AAV, and with a term no longer than 4 years. But I really do think he is a quality goalie that we cannot overlook. That said, I am a huge Jack Campbell fan. I think he has what it takes to become the starter eventually, but he will need to be eased into the role. I think moving on from Freddy dissolves a dreaded "goalie controversy" and if you bring in the right guy to split the load, it gives Campbell the legroom to take the job and earn it. Rather than handing Jack 65 games and expecting him to be able to handle it. It will be a contract year for Jack next year, and I think it will be a shit or get off the potty moment for the Leafs. Show us you can handle the workload, and we will pay you accordingly. Long story long, the grass isn't always greener. I will admit, I think its the right move to part ways with Freddy after this year, but I'd be lying if I said I was 100% confident on that

Da playoff goalies will be Price -- Team canada go to guy , hellebuyck --- Team USA go to guy and markstrom -- Team sweden go to guy and who do we have da weakest link Freddy - Team Denmark OMG 0-8 in big time games
It is why we tried to unload him this offseason ... he is in over his head ... but I think Soup will end up taking over da net when Freddy flops again

I think the key is that whoever we get, whether that is Andersen or someone else, is not a long term commitment. I used to think that maybe Andersen for 4 years was possible if the money was right, but I think he is a 2-3 years max kind of guy right now, similar to Holtby (that may be a good comparable for an Andersen extension). Some other team may get desperate and offer him more, but he will be turning 32 by the time his new deal starts, and with his injury history, I am not sure people really want him into his 35+ years.

We could turn to a guy like Grubauer or Raanta (both likely only get 2 or 3 years) and have a tandem with Campbell. If we go long term with anyone, I think it would be Binnington... But it depends how much he commands. He is still pretty young and has proven success, but shouldn't be someone who breaks the bank either.

Sorry I don't believe, sure he has a good game every now and then but mostly this season he looks bad. I certainly wouldn't extend him.

I’m not 50/50. I would sign him if he improves focus and the price is right. Otherwise I’m going to focus on Campbell being teamed with another solid goalie and depth in the system instead. I don’t like his focus and you are on the money that he doesn’t always look poised.
I think i am going to go neutral on him and watch this play out. If this unsteadiness keeps showing up they could trade him for all i care any longer. I don’t have patience for a disinterested player.
