A week ago I was hoping for the 2 seed with MTL in the 3 spot, and a nice little run.

Now I'm hoping to push Washington to at least 5 games and get some of the youngsters a little playoff experience.

To make me even more angry about the current predicament, if the 3-2-1 point system were in use, the Bruins would be third in the Atlantic, ten points over Toronto, and eleven over Tampa, nine points over the Islanders.

Even though this topic has been beaten to death, I definitely agree with you. Rewarding a team for playing for OT under current point values is stupid. Eliminate loser points, and Toronto, and their 34-38 record don't belong on the playoffs. Nor do the Islanders at 34-38. Boston on the other hand is 38-35. I think we can agree that none of those 3 records are any good.

I never was someone who had a problem with ties, and personally I think the 2 points for any win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss was fine. Regardless, since the shootout is here to stay, that system doesn't work anymore, so the 3-2-1 is probably the best way to go. Rewards teams for trying to win in regulation, and still rewards teams for making it to OT, while putting enough of a gap between teams that play like Toronto, and teams that win in regulation.

Not fair to judge teams for succeeding within the rules they play under.

Going to a 3-2-1-0 point system would make the regular season so much better. I hate that the NHL won't do it.

I mean, good on Toronto for succeeding under the current format. But if DET last year went to show, a team like that doesn't belong in the playoffs.

I do wish the NHL would change SOMETHING about the current point format. It rewards mediocrity.

How about the NHL keeps the current "overtime", but an overtime defeat or loss in the shootout gets you nothing. Two points to the winner; zilch for the vanquished.

I would rather that then the 3-2-1 system, but 2 points being decided by a shootout win is pretty lame. Maybe just give the shootout winner 1 point and the loser 0? I dunno.

must win the next 2 games .... otherwise its like getting punched in the stomach

hoping other teams do the Bruins a favor and beat the islanders, tampa...while trying to win again teams like the Hawks, Capitals

too much pressure for this fragile club

Better than what we have now.

But I favor the 3-2-1-0 set up because it incentivizes winning in regulation so much I think it will drive the regular season product to be way better. More intensity, more motivation, more reward.

The idea you can have a 6 point swing in a division game is juicy.

This is a great point, but moot as all teams play under the current rules.

The Bruins no doubt have some deficiencies as currently constructed. They really should make the playoffs as the odds are in their favor. It was horrible watching them run out of gas the last 2 years near the end of the season. The only thing different this year is that they did not fall apart on their road trips out West. Really hoping they do not fade this year and that they can hold on long enough to get in. Worried about them fading.............

FWIW 7-2-0 @home since coaching change, 5-4-0 on road.

Just checking to se if you have the same optimism after the last 4? They are a .500 team. Same team for the last 3 year. I'm feeling a lot better about my decision to drop 11 seats next year.

I waited to vote til after this game.... wanted to see if they would rebound and handle an inferior team on home ice. Instead they had a ****ing abortion blowing 3 1 goal leads in insanely quick fashion and mailing it in in the 3rd to get blown out. I'm sorry to say they will not make the playoffs. No chance.

we can blame the players, coaches..... ultimately the blame should be pointed at

Peter Chiarelli , Sweeney, Neely

instead of being this borderline playoff team that doesn't make the playoffs year after year.... some big roster moves need to be made

they won't make it in... after the coaching change the load was off their shoulders... played for fun...and rode a winning streak

hit one or two road bumps and the teams mental instability is acting up again. just chocking

Issue with that logic is how different games would "finish". Teams would be gunning to win in regulation more often so less games would go to OT to begin with. Some teams simply play to get a point late in the third. That may not be the case in. 3-2-1 system.
