There's a difference between having a translator and having buddies on the roster who speak your language.

Where did I say there wasn't? Sure, buddies are great. Hooray for buddies! I'm talking about the hockey organization as a whole. I hope we have someone who isn't a player in Columbus for this, too. And not just for him but also Chinakhov and Tarasov with Russian, and Jiricek with Czech.

I have lived in a foreign country surrounded by people who spoke exceeding little to absolutely no English. There was plenty of smiling, nodding, etc and very little true understanding. Don't under-estimate the frustration, its a barrier.

With all the different languages I would think it is a given to have translators either employed by the team or player, or they have access to them.
Well, he was having a conversation with Svozil after the game, and he was doing most of the talking. Maybe Svozil knows Russian, I don't know.
You just hear stories about other orgs after the fact that made no effort to acclimate their young Europeans. Sink or swim, kiddo! Look at Edmonton with Puljujarvi who didn't even bother to have a Finnish translator for a kid who found English extremely difficult. Shoot, look at what some orgs do even with native English speakers, throwing kids to the wolves with no support as they transition to the pro game. I'm just expressing that I hope the Blue Jackets are being proactive and supporting these kids so they can be the best on the ice they can be by simply being able to communicate fully.
To this I say: only one way to find out! When they miss the playoffs by 1 game maybe we'll look back and blame it on this call-up.

Jeff posted the preview a couple of hours ago, Vronk is scratched. Good move for now, but I would like to see him in a game some time in this stretch. If Patty is out for the rest of this week, I would like to see him play against the Islanders this coming Saturday, cuz ya gotta play tough against your division rival.

It's 2023. Everyone has access to Google translate on their phone. It's not perfect but there are ways to communicate if you have to. Maybe off the ice they have translators, but they aren't going to have translators on the ice for the guys.
Yes, I'm sure google translate is perfectly optimized for translating hockey coaching nuance. Sarcasm aside, that's what I'm talking about: the off ice coaching stuff. Hockey on the ice is the same in every language. I'm not worried about that. But commuinicating nuances the coaching staff wants to work on with him? Certain training things, certain nutrition things. Those are what I hope they have someone off ice to translate for.

We had our roof done this summer. The GC subbed the roofing work to a group of 11 Guatemalans who spoke not a single word of English and the GC not around. SMH! Yes everything mostly turned out correct the first time around but Google Translate with them was moderately successful.
I use it to translate international genealogical documents and even that is far from perfect. I agree with you, I am sure it is far from ideal for an actual conversation or a conversation about hockey.

I'm just saying, it's not realistic to have a translator for every foreign player who doesn't speak English as a first language. If it was a superstar top pick that would be like Fantilli where you know without a shred of doubt he's staying in Columbus and is your face. Yeah you get him a translator and you make sure he's working on his English as much as possible. But not for a guy like Voronkov (not a knock on him)
IDK if it's changed but I remember earlier in camp they asked marchenko about it and he said he was basically translating everything to him.
I think everything is O.K.

Two of the players that have looked the best to me in recent games are Marchenko and Roslovic. I wouldn't be changing their lines like this. They've been dangerous. And Danforth has really helped the 4th line, it was abysmal before he slotted in there.
But in general I support experimentation, so if that's the idea then let's go ahead and find out more about what we have.

If we were running back the same lineup I would agree but we gotta see what Voronkov does in the lineup.
That's what this year is for, bottom line. Yes, we want to be competitive and maybe challenge for the playoffs, but the most important thing is the experimentation, development and sorting process. They've already dispatched Robinson and Foudy. They've determined Boqvist and Peeke are not it. And we're only six games in. Good can come later.
This is "cut the fat" year. As you can see we already had some causalities and some who are currently enjoying a stay of execution.

I’d keep for Danforth on the 4th line and sit Olivier if Voronkov is being inserted. I agree than Danforth has been the energy and added skill the 4th line had been missing.
Olivier looks like he's in agony at the end of every shift. There's no way he's 100%. I'd sit him instead of KJ, but I also agree KJ hasn't looked great even with the goal, and he did the "try to slow things down" thing again last night we already know Vincent doesn't like.
