Neither a total disaster, nor was he able to seize the opportunity imo. I agree with BT, should have been replaced before last season, and if not, most definitely before this one.

My gut tells me Staios is going to be super conservative. I think he'll make small moves that will hopefully add the finishing touches to the team. While Dorion took big risks and big swings, Staios will be safe and not try for any homeruns. I could be wrong, it's just a feeling. I think him and Pouly are going to analyze everything, and no move will be made unless it is vetted thoroughly.
I liked Dorion's swings. Some were homeruns and some were strikeouts. I still maintain the Duchene deal wasn't that bad. When all is said and done, he gave up Turris and Byram.. not bad for a number one center.
I just simply took the team that was in the final playoff spot (DET) and used their current winning percentage to project how many points they'd have. I guess I am assuming everyone else continues to play at the current winning percentage.
Likely could be flawed method, but...
Yeah people use “oh he was there just to keep the kids positive”. Uhhh that’s not a description of NHL head coach. The problem is we have not been in a position (Melnyk, then his passing) to can Dorion before this season and as soon as there was a pretext, Andlauer did so. I think they were pretty well aware when they acquired the team that Dorion absolutely had to go, no matter what they said through medias. Dorion had already decided to sink or swim with the DJ
But seriously, even though the expectations weren't that they'd win the Cup or even make the playoffs, that 2020-21 season told us all we needed to know about Dorion and DJ Smith.
Look at this below, it's not about the W-L column, it's about the way they were losing, that team was barely NHL level. It was already the 4th season of the rebuild (Habs are in their 3rd season in comparison) and money was spent to surround the young core who were all on their ELCs (except Chabot) and we couldn't even take advantage of that, even a little. That was probably the worst GM offseason that I had to witness in decades of following the NHL and DJ had no idea what to do with it.

I can't imagine any serious NHL business not cleaning the deck after that, season is basically over after 10 games (since it was a shortened season). I don't buy the "rebuilds take forever" narrative and it's not because you're early in the rebuild that you can't show signs of progress. Look at the Habs, Stanley Cup finals in 2021, fell apart the following season and have been ahead of us in the standings all season, playing for 0.500. And they only had Toffoli, Chiarot, Lehkonen and Brett freaking Kulak to sell... In comparison, we had guys like Karlsson, Stone, Duchene, Pageau, Brassard, etc
It is actually pathetic when you look at it this way
I like to think so.Seems nice of him, I think. Before I can be sure I need to know WTF "high emotion" is exactly.
Are they high a lot?
Are they highly emotional?
Do they experience a high amount of emotions?
Which is it?
We need transparency from this new coaching staff!!!!!!!!
Ha. Love it.
Weird tweet, he said the played with a lot of passion and emotion, said that's a good thing at doesn't want the to lose that but they needed to manage the game better and if I remember correctly manage their emotions with the highs and lows,Seems nice of him, I think. DJ spun these tracks from 1984, and now our players have high energy and emotion
Gord alluded on the pregame how these players cut their teeth with DJ and it took them longer to buy in and adjust to new coaching.
Seems that most have accomplished that now. (for now lol)

Keep in mind they have just recently started to learn how to play NHL hockey adequately
And then there's still several Dorion misfits/bad pro scouting on the team
I think I'll try the harder stuff.Ha. Love it.
I don't even know how to play hockey without a puff or an edible anymore.
I want to see a stronger focus in every game on playing without the puck. Strong forechecking in the O zone, keeping 1 F high to avoid giving up 3 on 2s, etc., fast backchecking to disrupt the other team's attack and entry into our D zone, close aggressive coverage of the Fs and Ds in our D zone, etc. The team is not there yet and needs to improve to get to the next level (playoffs). Such play would keep us in most games to the final buzzer.this team would be fighting for a playoff spot if Martin took over way before
the way they are pushing in these games is really a nice change
