Eichel went on to be the number 1 c on a Stanley Cup winner. Have to hope the Sens can support these young guys and build a winning culture. Or watch them win cups somewhere else.
Nope. We're not making the same mistakes we made with Karlsson, Stone and the rest we lost. Melnyk and Dorion are gone. Tkachuk and Stü are untouchables. We build a winning culture around them and Sanderson. If we need to get rid of some others to make our team more playoff conducive I am okay with that, just not our best players.

Well, I assume Tank is out for sure, so some of his cap hit could go towards a vet, and Pinto would mitigate the loss of offence. It's expect Greig to move up into tanks spot on the wing, so that means the vet coming in would either be a RH Dman to bump out one of Hamonic or JBD or a third line winger, ideally someone that plays a heavy two way game rather than an offensive minded guy.

I expect Brannstrom to be moved, perhaps to make room for Kleven if he's ready

Leaving the points wide open has bugged me for years. I know collapsing can be effective, but the Sens forwards collapse while also not effectively supporting the defenceman.

Rarely do the wingers manage to make a puck battle a 2 on 1. They also puck watch a lot, so seams open up.

When teams need a push against Ottawa they can just start a high cycle and the forwards are lost.
I don't disagree but you're referencing an execution problem. Collapsing in your zone and keeping everything on the perimeter is a system that if played properly limits getting to the inside and getting good looks. You need shot blocks and seam passing cut off. Lots of veteran coaches use this system

Cup winning teams all make massive trade a - Chicago with Hossa, L.A. with Richard and Carter, Boston with Horton, Vegas and the Sabers kid, st Louis with the Tim Hortons hit and run guy

We shouldn’t be afraid of big trades, it’s essential to win

If Tarasenko departs, then maybe another winger to play in the top 6? I agree that another good RD would be nice and is needed.

The article mentions a veteran for the 3rd line though.

I'd wonder what the cost will be? It seems like prices are pretty hight at this time. The article mentions the timing would be before the trade deadline.

"The Ottawa Senators’ president of hockey operations and general manager confirmed Friday he’d like to add at least one veteran player to the roster if he can find the right fit before the National Hockey League’s March 8 trade deadline."

Speaking of Hossa, Jacques might want to remind Tim and Brady , Chabby , Sandy and the rest of the core what happens to his young players . DJ created flawed, sensitive players . Jacques created three HOFers in Alfredsson and Hossa and Chara. Chara especially was a freak throw-in pick in the Yashin-Spezza trade. Jacques built some of the best players to ever play the game.

But we need Berube as of yesterday

A massive trade could happen in the form of Chabot, Chychrun, Batherson or Norris. Maybe even Pinto. Not Stü, Tkachuk or Sandy.

I am praying that he does not give up a young rising player for an older declining player.

Why Berube? What are his coaching skills and approach? Is he like Tortorella?

We actually played a pretty good defensive game. We're still making mistakes and are paying the price of them but it's in the right direction.

Wasn't able to catch this one .. . but I will gladly take losses if the team is looking better defensively.

It'll take time to unlearn all the old habits. This season is over . . . teach them how to play defense.

Swiftwin. Thought being on the road playing a game every two days was much easier for the boys.
To be fair....a lot of the players complained about our early schedule that had us as many as 8 games behind.

They are creatures of routine and we had no routine

There are times to make big trades and times not to. Dorion made them way too early. All those teams were close. You build internally then add.

They played a pretty good road game against an elite offensive team. The sens had chances they weren't opportunistic. I thought Stutzle was noticeable. He doesn't have his swagger though, he double clutched on a great pass from batherson that would have been in the net last year.

Overall I liked the teams play. They protected the house pretty well. It's coming, the more they get used to it the more it's reactionary tye easier it will be. Once it starts coming naturally I think we will see better results.
