I would've been optimistic a month ago. But looking at it now, nothing will save us. Dorion screwed this team over for years to come. Zero depth, empty cupboard, shit goaltending, lost picks.
There's still assets that can be moved, wont be for a bit though, but at some point we would have to win a 1 for 1 trade right?

Ya, it's not completely out of the question, I'm certainly not the authority on it, but I'll be surprised if he gets another go after this and the record on paper.

I said all along this guy wouldn't be here when the team eventually is succeeding. Just had that aura to him that he wasn't the guy.
I for one, wish him all the best as the next head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. :sarcasm:

I honestly think he could get another job some day. Dont think he has done as bad a job as people say, Dorion and Melnyk set him up for failure. By the time he had a decent roster that could actually compete the message had gone stale. Happens, I just hate that Capuano is still around. The D core has been the most mismanged part of this team for a long time. Want a fresh voice from top to bottom here.
He's still responsible for making final decisions and proposing changes to the D zone structure. Toronto was awful in their own zone when DJ was the assistant there. Our special teams are shit.

I can buy the argument that he's gotten stale with the guys that have been around for a while (despite those same players wanting to keep him), but even the young kids are starting to play like shit and they haven't been exposed to him long enough for the message to become stale.

Cap is going to go too as soon as a new HC is hired. Wouldn't make sense change everyone immediately and then do it again really soon.

The delayed sale really f***ed us over but at least we are now rid of the final piece of the trifecta of ineptitude.

Yup, all they did with this talk about stability and patience is waste another season when they could have potentially saved it by doing this merely 2/3 weeks ago.

Glad they finally did it but what a dumb move to let things go to hell first.

They clearly were doing it for the players who wanted "stability".

You can make an argument that a coaching change was unlikely to turn things around enough to get playoffs, and there was more value in extending an olive branch to the current group of stars in order to improve or create positive relations between players and a new ownership staff.

We are talking about a core who have mostly sat through a 7 or so year rebuild. If they say we want stability and the team goes against that, it's like poking the bear. Players can ask for trades or not re-sign.

Add in that the Dorion/Dadonov and Pinto situations were a circus that already went against the idea of stability. While the current ownership group did not cause those situations, making them worse with a coaching change that went against the desire of the players could have been see as Andlauer and Staios not having the backs of the players.

At this point, nobody can argue that they did not give DJ a fair shot.

Why did we not fire the guy responsible for defense

They have him tied up to the water heater tank at the bowels of CTC where the only thing boiling is the cappucino being poured on him.

Or something like that probably, not sure why Cappucino is still here tbh lol.

I will say if there's anyone I want as an interim it's Jacques. He will calm things down in general but also get to fixing this mess over the next weeks and months whether he stays or not long term. These players were in desperate need of an authoritative voice in the room with real NHL experience, and they've got it in spades with Martin.

Not expecting any big turnaround in the near future but I'm confident he'll at least get these kids back on track.

Guessing here, but out west for 2 more games, Jacques and Alfie travel with team? So only 2 spots they could filll. They said they are giving him time to think about his next step… 0 chance he stays. They’ll get someone once they return home
