I don’t think he’ll get the Spezza treatment.

Spezza did need an attitude adjustment and seemed to think he was bigger than the team. He loafed defensively on top of his giveaways.

Stutzle seems to have always been willing to put in the work but hasn’t (IMO) been developed. Jacques won’t hesitate to bench him for mistakes but he’s not going to scratch him or send him down either.
The difference now is that Alfredsson is the perfect buffer for a Jacques Martin coached team. JM puts the strategy in place Daniel reinforces the message and motivates the guys.

A change was necessary. This one was easily available.

My expectations is the will take a couple steps back while making adjustments.

Forget Playoffs this year. IMO probably next year too.
Agreed. I suspect that Jacques has identified the weaknesses of this team to Staios (e.g., coaching, need for bigger, stronger, more physical defensemen) and that the roster will change gradually over time to address those weaknesses.

Jacques is here for the short term as interim Head Coach; I don't think he wants the permanent job.

Alfredsson is AC because Staios decided that Payne must go too. I wonder if Alfie wants the AC job on a permanent basis. The media release did not indicate it was interim or temporary.
You know my point. Nothing is permanent.

No to the bag skate. Practicing D zone play without the puck would be far more useful.

You've caught the Dorion doofus bug!
Speaking of practice, is there a stretch coming up where the team will be able to have multiple practices with the new coach?

Gord Wilson on TSN 1200, asked to assess DJ Smith's tenure:

"I can't make that assessment, but I think if you asked Brady Tkachuk, he'd give DJ Smith a passing grade."now that these comments make Tkachuk look like a loser?
Couldn't be more obvious that DJ's tenure has been an "F"! Observable and measurable Gordo!
I would love to get a gig like that for one year. :)

They better welcome Jacques with open arms; the smart ones will; the dumb ones will be replaced.
It is back to square one for most of these guys! Time to make an impression and fit the Martin and Alfie mould! DJ has left the building!

No, September I guess.
Due to the PA mandated days off a month, plus schedule, plus mandated optional practices ( not sure of number)

It's a very delicate situation.

Has there been any reaction or comments from players yet? I am just dying to hear what Brady has to say. This is a HUGE watershed moment for him as a captain.

Season can still be salvaged. Not in terms of playoffs, but start instilling good habits into the players and whoever doesn't want to get with the program, ship them tf out.

Just repeating the obvious: Whether players or coaches are to blame, a change was needed. He shouldn't have started the season and when he did it was allowed to go on too long so now it's a real long shot to get things back on track enough to make the playoffs.

Sucks we lost this season but at least the move was made
I agree. Worse case scenario is that they use the rest of this season to teach the players how to play away from the puck, play within a sound defensive structure then come out flying out of the gate next year, a la Vancouver.

The fact that SS hired JM in the first place tells me 2 things: this gave him the option to do what he just did & they he wants a defence-first coach for the team.

I wonder if we also need a upgrade in the goalie coach position? Is he bad or is it just the poor defensive play of this team that affects all of our goalies? At least we won't have to wait long to find out lol.

I would've been optimistic a month ago. But looking at it now, nothing will save us. Dorion screwed this team over for years to come. Zero depth, empty cupboard, shit goaltending, lost picks.
We will now be able to properly evaluate the players including the goalies. It will show if there are also roster shortcomings. Interesting times ahead.
