Also possible that he polled the owners, who lied about having actually watched any hockey games this year and are just happy that they're making a little more money off these digital ads even though they're so rich they haven't even noticed any difference in their finances.
It looks like I am definitely in the minority but I actually find these less distracting and much more visually appealing. The less different ads, the more clean it feels to me.
As I said, I get this isn’t a popular opinion, but I find it better as a viewer.

Worse than the digital ads is all the ads on the ice. It is terrible to watch on tv. I hate Bettman.

The sticks are disappearing into the ads, players bodies are fuzzy and look just like cheap deepfake artifacts.
Make the ads stay on the boards at least. The technology doesnt seem to be ready.

If fans find games “more watchable” then why is there even a “backlash” to begin with? Because fans don’t find games “more watchable” and Bettman is a lying pos.

I tried watching a game last night. For whatever reason, the first period was just using normal physical ads. I was really enjoying the game, until the start of the 2nd. I immediately noticed that the players, ref, and net looked really weird around the boards. At first I thought my stream was artifacting- They'd switched to digital ads. Within a minute they started with the motion and flashing ads, and I was done. I would be shocked if this isn't costing the NHL a lot of viewers. Considering that the salary cap is projected to only go up by ~$1 million, it doesn't seem like these stupid ads have been very financially successful.

That's MSG's fault, that's an ezpass ad that's supposed to be on the glass, like the other digital ads they have been doing on the glass for a few years now. Those suck too though.

I recall a game edmonton played at the start of the year where the board went blank for 5 minutes and it was beautiful. I have wet dream about it since.

This Panthers Rangers game is shameful. The Florida broadcast quality probably isn't a good as MSG, but these board ads on the main camera have degraded the picture quality to pre HDTV level. I have the game on my laptop & the Jets on my TV (both streams) & the hockey picture quality is embarrassing in comparison.
You can see the difference immediately when the hockey broadcast switches to a different camera without the ads...the picture becomes instantly sharper with the numbers & letters on their jerseys are easily read & their faces are in clear focus.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw a million idiots in Times Sq last night wearing tophats with Planet Fitness logos last night.
So I got used to the ads changing during the play last year but this year the "distortion" (for lack of a better word) around a player when they are skating by the boards is driving me nuts this year.
Yeah, the player/puck/stick distortion when in front of the boards has always been the bigger issue for me versus the rotating ads, even if the latter is a straight up middle finger to fans that is completely unnecessary other than to attempt to distract from the actual product on the ice.

But again, they put ads out there for us to notice them. Otherwise, why are these companies paying for the ad space? NHL will come up with ways to make you and I to notice them more.
They look a little cleaner than traditional ads. But they're still a complete nuisance. When they change during the play, and also when they make players and the puck disappear during the play along the boards. Another glitch that I've noticed the last few weeks that drives me bonkers is the digital ads behind the net clashes with the goalie's water bottle on the net, so there is a constant flash coming off it that is really really annoying.
