Did we claim Zykov?

"Muh Speed" strategy of Blake has destroyed this team.

"We just need to be faster, and younger, and try harder" *adds a bunch of inexperienced rookies who are fast*

"Damn, we must not be fast enough. Better get rid of the slows lol" *Trades Pearson for nothing, refuses to pick up young, promising assets because "they're slow lol"*

Mr. Blake, Kempe seems to not be scoring, lacks def awareness, and also lacks hockey iq. Maybe he was called up too soon?

"No, but you see, Kempe is a fast, so it's chill"

But what about being able to move and handle the puck

"What about SPEEED do you not understand?"

Why do you think Edmonton picked up Zykov and no one picked up the others?

Well the Pens got Dea back. Why did other bad below Edmonton pass on Zykov? It's good enough to not be the worst scoring team in the league? If it's just about taking a chance on a free asset who can push young guys to Ontario, we should be talking about anyone and everyone that hits the wire every day. Other than the picked by the Kings context to Zykov, I don't know why this is the move that proves anything about the organization either way.

Not saying the Kings shouldn't have taken him. There's nothing to lose by doing it. And to be fair, we did talk about Dano(who is also yet to score a goal this year).

Yeah, we should. More importantly, Blake and Robitaille should be as well.

PJ Bond...love your enthusiasm. Not a knock on you at all, but your posts solidify my theory that we are back to the DT days except, this time, the team has a bunch of guys on it that have actually delivered in the past so more is expected out of them, leading to the on-ice results being even more frustrating.

What I mean by this is a multitude of prospects are being listed constantly as if they are all going to contribute, like the Kings pipeline is great all of a sudden. It's great to have hope since the on-ice product is hopeless, but you say Strand, I say Petiot. You say Rempal, I say Pushkarev.

We can list all of DT's 1st round picks and be horrified at the hit rate. Vilardi looks great when he's upright but that is not very often. Kupari is having a great season so far but, like, Grebeshkov was going to be amazing as well. Hell, the torch was carried for Hickey on here for five years.

These top round picks, including JAD and Thomas, need to turn out a pretty high hit rate for this current team to do anything. Can they do it soon enough to help the current core win? Probably not. That's why a nearly-bankable prospect like Hughes is desperately needed.

Changing gears, Zykov is not surprising. Current scouting staff was cool trading him for 14 games of Versteeg. It's not like Lombardi just wheels and deals without listening to his scouts when it comes to prospects. They gave up on him a long time ago and it is the same scouting staff.

It is pretty funny that this is the last straw for some when it comes to questioning Blake. Blake is a god because he kept 1st round picks and signed prospects. Doesn't catch any **** from most people on here for overseeing the last place team in the league but the second he doesn't claim Valentin Zykov off of waivers, he's a moron. Good stuff.

Hey thanks....haha. What about Joe Piskula? Yachmenev? I was at the Forum and sitting a section over from Jerry Buss often...I remember the 'Fire McGuire' chants. So funny.
The Kings need to have Kupari, JAD, Vilardi, Clague, Brickley to be good...and hopefully star level for Kupari. Hard to believe no King draftee in over 10 years now is star or
near-star level. Blake may be hard to figure out, but at least he's signed some good free agents and because of Quick and Campbell going down, is the only reason we now know
Petersen can play and that may be the best thing that's happened this season....so they can trade Quick for good assets. Yes, they desperately need Hughes.
We are back to the DT days for sure.

So with just nine, minus Phaneuf and Quick, there is still around $33m in savings. Assuming the cap goes up, you could have like $35m in free cap next year.

If the Kings went in 100% on a rebuild, I’d be willing to split season seats in the 200s, with some premier seat games from stub hub sprinkled in, if the Kings opened the season with the following roster.

Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Wagner Kempe Luff
Clifford Vilardi Rempal
JAD Amadio Brodzinski

Brickley Doughty
Clague LaDue
MacDermid Fantenberg

Peterson
Campbell

Sturm behind the bench

I'd really like to see Toffoli next to Brown and Kopitar at some point... It's like Toffoli is glued to Carter because that 70's line, but it'd be nice to see if he'd work someplace in the line. Then again maybe it's happened and it's such a disaster I missed or forgot it...

If I were together a roster I'd probably hang onto one of Muzzin or Martinez (leaning towards Muzzin) and then just turn it over to the kids.

If this season is a lost case by end of December we better start seeing massive lineup changes and attempts to find out what pieces are salvageable and which are serviceable where.

The Reign are also in need of help, so adding Zykov in order to send down Rempal or Wagner would have helped.

So would Soshnikov or Dea. Hell, Ben Street would be a fine tanking place holder in order to send those guys down for the Reign.

So it was casual Friday at work and I was wearing a kings sweatshirt and went downstairs for a break and some girl from another office in the building looks at me and says Go Kings Go, I chuckle and say yeah for Hughes. She looked at me like I had 2 heads. Sigh.

LaBarbera won the AHL MVP.

That's fine, I'm not saying Zykov would turn into anything. What I'm saying is it doesn't hurt anything to give him a try. If he wound up like LaBarbera, it would not matter at all, waive him again. Doing nothing when you a guy available for free who is both young and just had a great year in the AHL is worth trying out.

What's the downside? No one can score and we're in last place.

Might as well take a swing at a free asset with a good attitude that the organization is familiar with that has upside and has at least shown a hint of that potential at the NHL level especially while we have waiver-exempt players and injuries in Hagelin and Lewis. He fails, oh well, waive him. He succeeds, great. There was literally zero risk, high reward. We weren't going to **** up the next 30 days because of Zykov.
Blake is one boring knob of a human, I think thats the occams razor answer. Im sure he got all sweaty trying to make the decision and it passed him by

You’d think they’d be all over this guy given their “former LA King” marketing shtick.

I thought about saying him, but he was way more awesome than McKenna. Things are so bad, I'd take that doofus back in a heartbeat.
This team is so boring I'd be scouring the LNAH for guys to see if they want a contract for the rest of the season. We'd continue to lose handily, increase odds for Hughes and at least the games would be entertaining.

Surely we're not stupid enough to pass on Scherbak right?

I was hoping Scherbak would have fallen to the Kings.

Needless to say I'd love to have him, too.

Then again who knows if WD would even play him, since he's Russian.

It is boring. Id rather watch an all fights league too. The style that won them 2 cups is extremely boring - but watching them win was fun. Even then I was always aware how boring the offensive style was. Elias Petersson, Gaudreau, P Kane, Barzal, and Matthews - those are about the only players that are guaranteed to entertain you these days... and a few teams skate so fast that its entertaining. Other than JQ's theatrics, the recent Kings are probably one the least entertaining teams ever assembled.
