Did team canada's womens team really lose to a bunch of boys?

yes, canada and the US are roughly on par with the lower level Midget AAA/ Jr B teams. They'll lose more often then not to the better teams. Played them a few years back tie once beat em a few times.

the american team lost to a high school team 2 - 1.. even shots.. pretty funny.

It is pretty ridiculous that they're getting so much publicity and time on television, and my high school team would've certainly beat them.

The largest woman of the Canadian team is 6 foot and 176 pounds. Thats probably average to below average size for a player on a AAA Midget team.

Its kind of an uphill battle for 5'6", 145 pound forwards to win puck battles against 6'2", 185 pound defensemen. So I don't see why it would be an embarassment to lose a game against opponents that are bigger.

Why do you think Pronger and Chara are top NHL defensemen? Size matters.

Not to put down women's hockey or anything, but it is kind of interesting, I guess just the combination of speed and strength needed to play hockey doesn't translate well from male to female. Compared to say women sprinters, who are only a second behind the men at the Olympic level, and could run the large majority of the male population into the ground. Don't know about those Italian girls, but I would've thought the US women's team could beat some highschool team.

Although it's probably not as bad as it sounds, from my understanding the US doesn't have junior teams like us Canadians do, it goes straight from highschool to college teams. This "Prep school in Minnesota" team is probably a whole lot better than your average small town Canadian midget leagues. Don't forget that there are guys that get drafted pretty high from American highschool teams.

Why did they even bother televising the WJC? Any NHL team could have beaten them.... :propeller

Why is that funny?

personally i hate woman's hockey, no body checking? what are they a bunch of 12 year olds? The fact that TSN gives them any airtime makes me sick. And why the canadian olympic comity had to name both the male and female hockey teams together was an insult to our men.

So i see a story about a bunch of 16 year olds beating a womans team i get pleasure, sue me.

I doubt checking was allowed in the game. Probably the only reason the womans team survived.

Either way, when you think about it, they're really not all that bad........well sort of. ;)

The High School the US women lost to was Warroad and it was only 2-1 That's the school T.J. Oshie played for last year.

Plus, in the big picture, Mid. AAA is some fairly good hockey. Not bad when you can beat a Mid AAA all-star team.

Size makes a big difference, and not just in checking. The extra reach gives tall hockey players a huge advantage over their shorter opponents. Plus if you outweigh your opponent by 40 pounds, its pretty easy to shield the puck.

Joe Thornton would just be Joe Average if he was 5'11" and 185 pounds.

Not to bash women's hockey (I enjoy the games), but why is it an Olympic sport? I mean, just in the sense that it's 2 teams beating the living crap out of every other country every year. Isn't that the reasoning that keeps Lacrosse out of the Olympics?

checking was not allowed, and the goal scored by the womens team wasn't actually goal. In fact, play continued for a few minutes and at the next stoppage they decided to just rule that the women scored, without even going to replay.... and if they would have, they would have seen that the puck clearly hit the post.

I won't sue you, but I will feel sorry for you.

This kind of post truly makes me sad. I do hope you are just a kid because I'd truly be worried for society if a mature adult actually thought this way.

These women train hard year-round, play hard and are the best at their game of women's hockey. Maybe they can't always beat high school kids who are undoubted much bigger, stronger and faster than them (purely because they are male), but that doesn't mean they don't deserve respect and some airtime during the olympics.

why?
The women can't play a level high enough to beat a freaking high school boys team!

The girls can't skate fast enough. They can't react quick enough. They aren't strong enough on the puck. They can't shoot. They can't pass. They can't stick handle.... and the goalies are even funnier to watch than the skaters.

well maybe pleasure is to strong a word, i get a good chuckle, that better:P

As for your comment, you feel sad?????

As for woman's hockey, i had a great idea a while ago how to make it better. Basically you have a straight laced guy calling the game and 2 color commentators. 1 would be a feminist and the other would be a sexist pig male. You would watch the game to hear the bickering between the guy and girl.

and really, is there even a need to put females in hockey?
I guess they just shouldn't be allowed to play hockey, or play sports, or go to college, or drive.

Yea because really...what are they doing out of the kitchen anyways? :propeller

You sir are an idiot.
