I guess they just shouldn't be allowed to play hockey, or play sports, or go to college, or drive.

Yea because really...what are they doing out of the kitchen anyways? :propeller

You sir are an idiot.

I suspect the gentlemen posting above us are the types who laugh hysterically at the special olympics.

No kidding. Its like a flashback to the 1930's.

the fact that womens hockey is an olympic event is an absolute joke though, and losing to a high school team proves that.

Women volleyball players are great. Women figure skaters and gymnasts are very talented. The agility of the gymnasts and figure skaters is amazing and the women volleyball players are also extremely talented.

However, when they play sports dominated by speed, strength and quickness they look out of place.
Heck, the Williams sisters were absolutely crushed by the 500th ranked male tennis player, back to back - and after the matches he bragged about how easy they were.

yes. I'm a sexist biggot who laughs at those less fortunate. You certainly pegged me correctly.

All I'm saying is that women hockey players stink. They aren't fast enough. They aren't quick enough. They aren't strong enough. They don't have the quick reflexes. They can't shoot and they can't pass.
The fact that one of the most dominating female teams on the planet lost to a high school boys team should make this point moote.

Taking gender out of it, women's hockey shouldn't be in the Olympics because only two teams are competitive.

The women here are emancipated enough for real hockey instead of ringette but why they don't do it is beyond me. It's like calling vegetable lasagne the real deal. Comparing men to women is somewhat pointless but still in most sports the same rules apply. That's real equality.

I will defend women's tennis. While you can't deny men are superior in playing tennis by the point you gave, I do enjoy woman's tennis more then males because all males do is hit the ball hard and get tons of aces. Woman's tennis there is more action(volleying the ball back and forth). The top women in that sport play at a high skill level that doesn't compromise the integrity of the game.

Now in woman's hockey they take out one of the most enjoyable parts of the game(body checking). That in itself ruins the integrity of the game. While there are a few females who i would considered highly skilled and could be exciting to watch, they are few and far between which makes it for a boring match to watch. Until woman learn how to shot, skate and pass better i don't want it litering my tv screen at all.

I've heard people state that they believe that the only reason why women are not playing in the NHL, is sexism :biglaugh:.

However, while the women are obviously not at the same level as the men, that is true for any sport. Jennifer Heil won a gold medal today, but I bet all of the male freestyle skiiers would have kicked her butt. Does that make it any less of an accomplishment? Any NHL team would have beaten Canada's world junior team, so I guess the world juniors are a joke too, right? No, because just as the world junior players represent the best players on the planet who happen to be under 20 years of age, the women's team represents the best players on the planet who happen to be female. The problem with women's hockey is not that the women aren't nearly as good as the men, but that there are only 2 teams that can possibly win the gold medal.

Off topic, men's tennis has improved greatly over the past couple years and I've seen many matches that include long, exciting rallies...:)

why?
The women can't play a level high enough to beat a freaking high school boys team!

The girls can't skate fast enough. They can't react quick enough. They aren't strong enough on the puck. They can't shoot. They can't pass. They can't stick handle.... and the goalies are even funnier to watch than the skaters.

and really, is there even a need to put females in hockey?

they should be able to play it, but it shouldnt be an olympic event unless they meet a certain standard (which they dont)

and really, is there even a need for some idiot to express their opinions publically?

Certainly the only problem with women's hockey being an Olympic event is the lack of competitive teams.

When watching women's soccer and hockey it's obvious there's a lot of skill involved. These players are really really good. But.. since women don't have the same physical tools as men do I think the games would be even more interesting played on a smaller surface. This is certainly true when talking about soccer but it would be true for hockey too. The game would be much faster and more intense allowing for the skill of the players to really shine.

A genius has spoken.

A transition into soccer. Sweden has one of the best female nationalteams in the world (Soccer). Some time ago they faced a team of 16-yearolds who played in an average juniorleague in Sweden during a trainingcamp, and lost 3-1.

Keep in mind, these juniors werent even that good, hehe..

Womens hockey shouldnt be in the Olympics, thats why we have the special olympics :biglaugh: :D

the american team lost to a high school team 2 - 1.. even shots.. pretty funny.

They dont just play any old high school team. They are playing one of the top prep schools in the country. That "high school team" beats jr a teams all the time. They prolbably had 4 or 5 guys already on division one commitments. People in Canada dont really understand the level of prep school teams. I didnt until I came down here to play.... They are "high school" teams but they have 19 and 20 year olds on them. Its more like the equivlant to a jr a team.

I was watching the womens U.S-Switzerland game yesterday and remember thinking that a good Finnish junior B (17-year olds) team could probably beat USA even if checking wasn't allowed (if it was things could get real ugly). Some players had some nice puck-skills, but it looked like they were playing in slow motion compared to the mens game.

The stupidity in this thread is amazing. Just because none of you are good enough to make it to the Olympics is no reason why the best women in the world shouldn't.

If you prefer watching Junior B hockey I suggest you turn off the TV and go watch some Junior hockey.

i couldn't have said it better myself. I see lots of people bashing the women's teams on here.. hey, at least they are off their butts playing a sport! and they are the best women that play hockey.

I understand that many are feeling that right now since only 2 teams have a chance to win, then it shouldn't be in the Olympics, but i disagree. The other countries have to make up some ground at some point, and in other sports we sometimes also see dominating countries.

Have Canada and the US ever played a full contact game? I really think those 2 teams can't go to the next level until hitting is allowed.

What was the sole purpose of this thread?

I believe it was an attempt at putting down women's Olympic hockey :shakehead

It's still all rather new. I enjoy the games myself and in the years to come it will improve and become more competitive. :thumbu:

I don't get this... Not fast enough for what? Not strong enough for what?
