Gotta love this guy's attitude.

Probably isn't easy playing 2nd fiddle when you know you pretty much saved the team from disaster in the first half of the season but goes out and battles hard every time anyway.

As much as I'd like to keep him for insurance I'll be rooting for him to get a proper starter's contract and workload elsewhere.

Yeah given his play, I'm not sure we could afford to re-sign him (he'd rightly try to get a starters job on another team with the resultant large bump up in pay).

"Goalie graveyard" indeed. When was the last time you could point to goaltending at the top/near the top of the list on the problems with this team?

I'd try to get this to 4 mill if we could or closer to it but yeah I don't see how we don't take a hard run at signing this guy AND keep Demko. All things considered I'm willing to take the chance on Demko as if he's on he's a Vezina worthy tender who can carry a team ............I just don't feel incredibly confident in his ability to stay healthy and thus a solid backup is needed.....

Worst case scenario we sign him and Demko returns to form. We can easily trade Lankinen. Teams are always looking for quality goaltenders.

Best bargain contract in the NHL this season.......you look around the league at teams with shaky goaltending, and I'm sure some scouts who specialize in goaltending are hiding from the accusing glare of their GM's these days.

Put Lankinen on some clubs below the playoff bar right now, and they're probably knocking on the door of a wildcard spot.

Honestly, just two years ago... which is a pretty solid piece of evidence in Lankinen's favor here as to the importance of his role, even if nominally a backup.
