It is being posted that the BJ's targeted Laine yesterday and that is the real e=reason he left the game.

If this is true the team should be fined or lose a few of points in the standings.

I know he spouted off but sometimes the truth hurts and is somewhere in the middle.
Come on man is this serious?

Players get targeted deliberately all the time, and Columbus was totally justified in targeting Laine.

Laine is clearly a dumbass and deserved to be targeted physically. It's not like he got Bertuzzied or something.

Columbus has won one playoff series in almost 25 years of existence. That says a lot about the franchise. Laine is just the wrong messenger.

They did and they did it completely within the rules. Laine crumbled after a few good hits. Not a single hit they gave Laine were even remotely close to being a penalty let alone whatever you are going on about
I am going on about the fact they allegedly targeted him , which is akin to putting a bounty on a players head. If the Habs took him out because of fear of injury then there is an issue that needs to be examined. Remember Bountygate?? I hope there is nothing close to that happening here.

This is one of the most pathetic topics I've ever seen on HF.
You did not have to participate i nit. But thanks for letting me know that my simple question could be deemed pathetic.
Merry Quanza, Xmas and Festivus to you

If you play professional hockey, you can be a target. No rules were broken, no players were suspended for anything dirty.

You don't take away "a few points in the standings" from another team because your feelings got hurt.
Fai enough but remember bountygate? There is no evidence that this was like that but it is extremely rare to take a player out of a game to protect him.

If they really did that, targeted his injuries then wow. I'm having a hard time believing that.

If they were so upset about Laine saying "losing was accepted", then I expect this to be the upcoming scene with their GM who said the same words.

Yes, they clearly did target him for his comment. They also hit him, legally, within the rules of the game, so who cares. Hockey is a contact sport. I'd rather they do this than take illegal runs at him all game long.
Great answer and appreciate the thought put into it. The y did nothing illegal based on the hits thrown but the concept of a whole team targeting one player is intriguing based on comments made by that player. It is usually only the 'enforcer or agitator' that would take on that role not the entire team.

Well yeah, they hit him every time they could.

Video with all the hits here.

I'm confused about why this is supposed to be a problem? Montreal fan not aware that hockey players can be targeted for hits? Has it been that long since you've seen the playoffs?
Thanks for the video of all the hits. There was certainly a concerted effort to throw him of his game but nothing illegal. If the BJ's bought into the coaches game plan the way they bought into laying into Laine they may be in first place!

I target the other team’s best player every game. If someone says or does something that irks me, I target him too. Like- if there’s money or intent to injure that’s different, but you can absolutely target a dude for clean hits. What a take.

The hardest collision in that sequence was the one where Laine tried to hit someone and got leveled.

Unfortunately it only works this easily because Laine is the easiest player to hit in the NHL. Huge lightweight target that doesn't have awareness around him.

When he was a rookie I always thought what if he could physically impose himself on people like Jagr and be impossible to move. Instead he's kind of like a baby gazelle who can laser the puck. He would be downright scary if he could play a physical game.
