Gotcha.. so you agree that he wasn’t really close to living up to his massive contract.Read my post:
Great goalie.........the team during his tenure had ONE 80 pt player. The question maybe should be did Bergevin earn his contract during Price's tenure.??To the OP's question, Price was never able to fully earn his contract, due to injuries. You could understand why he got the deal – he had been one of the most dominant goalies in the league for 7/8 years. Unfortunately, by the time he signed it he was missing more and more games.
He still remained dominant in the playoffs until the end, and you could argue those results made everything else worthwhile. Plus, he was on LTR.
Contracts don't appear out of thin air. I posted the context leading up to Price's contract. This should be obvious to anyone.Gotcha.. so you agree that he wasn’t really close to living up to his massive contract.
It was never my argument that he wasn’t a franchise level player for portions of his career, I just thought a thread about his performance from 2017-2024 deserved some stats… from 2017-2024
lol right glad we’re on the same page. Have a good one.Contracts don't appear out of thin air. I posted the context leading up to Price's contract. This should be obvious to anyone.
I think at some point it's more about market value. It was obvious that the Price contract was going to be exceptionally difficult to be fully lived up to over it's 8 year span, but at that point we were talking about a league MVP winning player who has been carrying a team on his back. Basically one of the most feared players you could go up against in a playoff series. Even a totally broken down Price against the leafs showed that. So to the OPs question I think the answer is an obvious no.Someday NHL GMs will learn to give players contracts based on what they will do during that contract, and not for rewarding them based on the play of their previous contract. Everyone knew giving Price that much money for that much term would end up being a disaster and it was. Just like Shesterkin in NYR.
Sure but it doesn't take place in a vacuum. You have to keep the fans and players happy. They would have been furious if he was traded or let walk as a UFA. Especially after what happened with Roy.Someday NHL GMs will learn to give players contracts based on what they will do during that contract, and not for rewarding them based on the play of their previous contract. Posts like these always make me laugh, disrespectfullyTake out his best season and he’s a one time Vezina finalist that never led the league in any individual category and couldn’t even scrape an All-Star nod.
You really still think that was on purpose? YikesThe answer is no, but because he was hurt a lot
I think he had the talent to drag the team by himself
He had the misfortune to get hurt by POS Kreider, and it never stopped after that
Those stats have nothing to do with the contract years.Regular season over 7 years:
