Eskin, that you??

lol, it just seems that it makes too much sense for a Philly-Tor deal to happen at some point

so are we signing back Doc this offseason as our 5th or what?

I would like to see it. Maybe he and Hutchinson can rotate and start every 10 days? Hutch can come out of the pen in between starts. Doc has more time to heal.

Has more value as a pitching coach... Seriously

He isn't a 1-3 guy, but he would be decent as a 5th starter

No he's not. Look at his numbers the last two years. His fastball was sitting at 87 last year... That's comparable to Todd Redmond, and Redmond has more durability.

The last thing we need is to be paying at or near 10 me per season for another rotation arm that is unreliable. This team needs guaranteed innings not long shots

We need to get over Doc. I loved the guy but he was a horse for a decade, it's now caught up to him, like every other great pitcher

Make Halladay a 10 day starter. No one said 10M. A 1 year deal around 5M possibly less if he's still avail come spring training.

87 for Doc is fine. On a short term deal, the combination of what he brings to the mound and what he brings to the team is well worth it. Doc might even be able to revive Ricky.

Sure it does. Have Hutchinson/Drabek pitch the other starts to give them some experience. Allows Halladay more rest between starts.

Give me some examples then. That's probably the most ridiculous approach I've heard of. Just as bad as Colorado's method of limiting starting pitchers innings at like 100 back in 2012.

87 is fine? He got absolutely shelled last yr at that speed. It's 5-6 mph slower than what he was.

What he brings on the mound/clubhouse is immediately erased when he's a) unsuccessful or b) on the DL

It's just not worth it. Especially with so many holes and limited budget

for a team that had Wang pitching for us last year, and on the radio Wilner is talking about giving Matzusaka a shot at spring training, Halladay as a 5th start / depth pickup can't hurt

No, it isn't. He's thowing 3MPH slower that 2 years ago and 4MPH slower than his fastest recorded (2007 is when the stats started).

He had a 2.5 WAR 2/3 of a season in 2012 with a 1.7MPH faster fastball.

I'm not saying he is sure to repeat (his cutter has been a below average pitch the last two years), but his velocity is not a concern.

Would rather get Arroyo than Doc at this point. He knows how to pitch effectively at lower velocities, compared to Doc who's just learning how to adjust.

That being said, I wouldn't touch either.

There are some stats that should make us nervous about Bronson too...his velocity has not decreased but his Contact% and Contact on balls in the zone% are trended slowly up (92.6% of the pitches in the zone he threw that were swung at and not fouled off were put in play). Also, his Swinging Strike rate is gradually dropping. His ERA was significantly better than his FIP especially and if his peripherals don't improve, he could drop off completely in the AL East.
