I was flamed for saying this before but I think Levi rode the magic of one decent wjc showing. I don't see him as anything but an average to slightly below average goatlender. He possess nothing extraordinary to overcome his lack of size.

Watched a lot of Huskies and he stood on his head there. When he wins in Rochester, it's similar. When he loses... it's 4 or 5 against.

Standing on your head is a necessity if a) your team isn't very good or b) you have to because you are not very good. He isn't dominant due to lack of size and any particular outstanding athletic traits. He seems like a decent kid, but I never saw the "it" to warrant the hype and I too watched the Huskies quite a bit. Jmho.

If you're calling Levi up for one game during this road trip, kind of rude not to have it be the game against Montreal, in Montreal. This kid's home town.
I imagine they're considering Rochester's schedule as well in figuring when to call him up, if they can "sneak" in a game for him without throwing the Americans net into flux that is probably preferable.

I was never impressed with the Huskies talent level. They reminded me a lot of the Hasek era Sabres - score on the PP, try to keep the GA down, but not actually good defensively.

And they were opportunistic scorers. Not a consistent offensive philosophy. Again what do I know. I wanted to sign Sam long term but the brain trust in wny thought otherwise

Patience is a virtue when it comes to goalies. Look at Wolf in Calgary. By all accounts, he could have been brought up at least a year sooner than he was , just dominant season after season but only got his chance basically this year and perhaps better for it. I think Levi is still the future for the Sabre net but a little more seasoning will be good for him until they get the trainwreck cleaned up. UPL can be a great goalie too, doesn't have the consistency yet but perhaps the team as a whole contributes to that. But a goalie that goes from great to mildly capable is not good enough for the long haul . Hopefully , the team comes around and Sabres have 2 great goalies in UPL and Levi in the future.

That's what most of us fans have thought - let him get the experience most tenders need at the AHL level - but the dufus who runs the team keeps trying to shoehorn him into the lineup instead of getting him the 200-ish AHL games that those other tenders have gone through on their way to becoming finished products.
