As posted a couple of days ago, I have no desire to trade the 2nd overall pick for the various reasons mentioned: Devils need to continue to build (37 points out of first), cap era and cap management, zero data on a trade of this high a pick (top 5) being made in the cap era etc. Watching the Carolina game last night and thinking about how the Carolina owner and management do some unprecedented moves in player trades and free agent acquisition, it made me wonder if they would move Andre Svechnikov. Hard to imagine a team wanting to move a 22 year old talent like him but he just does not seem to be so noticeable these playoffs for some reason and the team does not look that great. He would be an interesting possibility if Carolina ever wanted to shake it up a bit and definitely somebody worth the 2nd pick. He is signed to an 8 year - $62m contract that starts next year. Again, I doubt they would move him but I would be listening on him.
Svechnikov is the last forward on that team to trade, maybe tied with Aho. His upside is a 40+ goal, 90+ point power forward. He's rare.

Honestly seems it happens every year. Top picks are "on the table" often, they just never get traded because the value is so high. Never heard a team saying "we 100% aren't trading the pick". Saying "we're open to hearing offers" is far from confirming the pick will be traded. Fitz is doing what he should, which is doing his due diligence and seeing his options. When all is said and done though, I'm 99.9% sure we'll be picking.
It’s because there’s so much risk of looking and for either side even if the values get matched up. One team is looking at trading away a good player and more for a pick that could possibly bust. They would look really stupid.
And then the team trading away a high pick is trading away a pick that could turn into a superstar for an older good player.
There’s a decent CNN mace somebody is gonna look bad and it’s really hard to know how well draft picks will turn out.
It’s a pretty big gamble.

2nd. Fehervary leads the team by considerable margin at an absurd 83%. Slaf's 2nd at 69% and Nemec 5th at 66%. Dominant tournament all around. It's what I needed to get onboard.

Also of note looking at those.
Mercer leads Canada in xG% and Severson is second.
On the other hand Graves is last on the team.

Nico leads Switzerland and Siegenthaler is tied with 3 other players for 7th (tied for 3rd among dmen).

Jiricek is tied for 3rd last on his team (last among defensmen).

And then ya Slafkovsky is second in xG% on Slovakia and Nemec is 5th.

It’s insane that Jiricek’s at 62% and that low down. Slaf and Nemec are at 69 and 66% and toward the top. Hertl’s gotta catch up to the other NHLers on the Czechia too. At 64% and the rest all over 70

Then keep him on the grill until he’s at least medium rare

I mean if we have like 80-90 pts next year and jump up to Bedard I’d easily take that over squeaking into the playoffs and getting smoked
I’d be ok with missing playoffs by a couple points if we could draft Bedard…. 10 spots is the most you can move up in the draft. So I’d like to be in the 10th pick slot (most points possivle) then win the lotto lol.
But , we are adding Ottenger ,Slafkovsky , Nichushkin , Lyubushkin , Marchment , so we won’t finish 10th worst in the league .

I've corresponded a bit with Mr. Robinson concerning Slafkovsky during the course of the year. I feel Cam's final #2 overall behind Wright will be Nemec, but I feel he's come around on several aspects of Slafkovsky's game which I've been lauding all along. I'm confident he'll have Slafkovsky in his top 3.

To me, it's extremely close between Wright and Slafkovsky at #1 right now, and I'd say it's a full tier down to my #3/#4 of Jiricek/Nemec (who are also very close).

I'm increasingly confident Slafkovsky will be the Devils pick at #2 overall at the 2022 draft. Nemec and Jiricek still must be considered dark horses, but the idea of lining up Hughes with Slafkovsky for the next decade-plus has to be overwhelmingly tempting. The elite skill of these two is clear enough, but the complimentary skill-sets also cannot be overlooked. With Slafkovsky wreaking havoc down low and Hughes unstoppable up high -- the potential here is nearly limitless.

Surely the thought of having an elite top pair dman on both sides would be tempting for Fitzgerald, as well.

In fact Id probably argue its more tempting. Not to speak on either prospect's potential or matchup vs one another, but if you were told a top pair RHD or a top line LW I think I know which most teams would gravitate towards, even with Slafkovsky being so big.

Makes it interesting to think which direction Tom goes for. Or even trading the pick, thats always an option. Options are always good to have

Slafkovsky being *big* is only a fraction of his appeal. He's an elite skill guy, who might possess the highest-end combination of playmaking/puckhandling in the entire 2022 class.

I agree it is tempting to have a Jiricek to pair with Luke Hughes in the future, or a Nemec to eventually overtake Hamilton as the team's top playmaking/transition RD. But right now, I'd just say Slafkovsky at #2 overall would be not only the "best available player", but also fits an extreme organizational need for an interior winger for the top 6.

This is also why I feel the Devils will not trade the pick. The Devils are not winning the 2023 Stanley Cup with or without whatever they can trade the #2 overall pick for. But they can surely contend from 2024-2030, and Slafkovsky could be a tremendous part of that while under contractual team control. I feel strongly that it is a superior option to build the best talent core in the Eastern Conference, as opposed to being slightly more poised to make the playoffs next year.
