The real question should be

Who would’ve guessed kinkaid having an nhl job and Cory doesn’t. Woof
Why should this be the real question? Kinkaid has an NHL job because he’s on a one year deal for $1.75 million that expires after this year, and not a $6 million dollar deal that has another two years remaining on it after this one.

He doesn’t have an NHL job because he’s better than Schneider (maybe he kind of is better now though) and we should have just went with him the whole time instead of trading for Schneider. Because as last year proved, he’s not good enough to be your starter and perform adequately at it year after year.

And he might even be right behind him after this year. If he finishes the season with a sub-.900 save percentage for the second year in a row, you think he’s getting a one way NHL deal for next season? Because all the goalies that have been worse than Kinkaid over the last 3 or 4 years (with the exception of Korpisalo, Quick and Schneider and the last two are on big cap hit deals with fern remaining) have found themselves out of the league.

long overdue. One of the last remnants of Lou's days and we all know what how those were. 1st round pick and $42M for a guys that is basically 70 games under 500 since he's been here and won 1 playoff game. Statiscially better than his on ice performace. Never known to be a big time goalie and came up small for the most part in the few big spots the team had. Was well paid and was shown more consideration than I thought he was due.

I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me based on how this is worded. In my opinion, we don't need the $6 million ($5.25 million with him buried) in space over the next two years right now. If we do at some point, we can buy him out then. We may need the $2 million in space 4 years from now. We might as well keep him until we're forced into doing something else.

Four years from now the cap probably rises by more than that $2 million. It’s really not a big deal. It was a bigger percentage of the cap when we did it with Camm and never mattered.

Wondering why the Devils also make this move?

Maybe just in case Schneider doesn't clear, which seems impossible?

Or is there a chance he doesn't report right away? Maybe they give him some time?

Good job leaving out his first three years here when he was one of the best goalies in the league on trash team.

Certainly a sad day for Cory and the franchise. I have to admit that I was absolutely over-the-top in happiness when Lou made the trade - and I still think it was a good deal.

After watching him for a year, it was clear that he wasn't the goaltender I thought he was, and I was certainly against him during the Marty debates.

It's too bad our terrible defense let him down to the point where he ultimately hurt himself (as have all our other goaltenders since) and also broke his confidence.

This is probably the best thing for him and the team - as I hope he finds himself and his game and can at least make some sort of comeback after we buy him out that isn't weighed down by lots of expectations or an albatros of a pair of unprecedented terrible couple of years.

LOL. That’s because the team sucks. His numbers were stellar, GTFO.

Some of you are absolutely ridiculous and are devoid of being able to have reasonable conversations and I am sick of it. There are TONS of reasons and examples as to why Cory has not been an NHL goalie for the past few years. But you guys who are intentionally rewriting history or choosing to forget his incredible play the first three seasons here or the good start to 17-18 or how well he played in the playoffs while injured is absolutely DISGUSTING. It’s pathetic.

I think head case is a little strong, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had severe depression and debilitating anxiety. The latter has already been documented at least once when he was actually good.

too bad .. but the devils had no choice.. good luck CS ... thanks for the years of service wishing nothing but best for him ... tough decision to have to make but shero and the front office made it.. they gave him every opportunity to get it back..

it was a well received trade at the time... it didn't work out the way anyone had hoped..
