GDT: Devils vs. Blackhawks, 7:30pm

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I really would like to get more than 89 points, but it seems like 89 will get us in. 90 just to be safe.

3-5-1 gets us to 90. 3-6-0 gets us to 89.

Islanders need to go 8-3-0 to get to 90 points from here on out. 7-3-1 gets them to 89.

Rangers need 8-2-0 to get to the 90, 7-1-1 to 89.

Jackets need 8-3-1 for 90, 7-2-3 for 89.

Just for fun because they’re the only other team over NHL 500 who are currently out of a playoff spot. Red Wings need to go 9-2-0 for 90, 8-2-1 for 89.

10-0-0 gets Boston to 89, they mathematically can no longer get to 90.

We can't go 3-6 down the stretch and hope to compete with Carolina. I'd like to see at least 5-4 with 6-3 being the target given our schedule. Even 5-3-1 is fine.

Agreed.

Those are just the numbers that will get us into the playoffs.

Unless you really think all of those teams will simultaneously hit hot streaks. And that’s without even looking up how many of them play each other. I know we play each of the Islanders and Rangers once more.

Rangers and Islanders have one more matchup, and so do the Islanders and Jackets.

The Islanders have now lost 3 in a row, although the two before tonight were (big surprise) OTL’s.

The Rangers have lost 4 of their last 5 all in regulation and I think the Jackets just snapped a 6 game losing streak the other night over the Islanders.

I think the Rangers are done. The other two probably are as well, but you never know. They could make it interesting if we go on another 3 game losing streak.

I look for the Rangers to win these next two against the two bad California teams, but I’m not too threatened by them behind them.

Markstrom said that playing "can't make it worse" with regards to his injury so he wanted to play. Sounds like he's still hurt.
Oy vey, what would a Devils season be without mismanaging another key player's injury?

I get if he wants to try to play and thinks he can play through it but clearly it's not working. The question is, is it an injury that is going to get better the rest of this season or not? Cause if it's not then I don't really blame him for trying to see if he can play with it before shutting down for the year. If it can get better, and we're just aggravating it further then it's typical Devils medical mismanagement.

Just got home from the game a little bit ago. That was a weird one. For combined goals from our most disappointing forward and our two least popular forwards. There weren't really any terrible goals and yet, I only remember 1 save from each goalie that wasn't totally routine.

Probably one of the most low event games with 8 goals that I can remember lol. It didn't help that I assumed the game started at 7:05 local time and showed up right around the time we went up 2-0.

Would not be surprised either case with this team but the scenario where he's cooked and seeing if he can play through it makes sense. They lost Jack. Losing their #1 goalie would be another big loss.

That being said...I don't see how it's beneficial at all. There's no shot an injured Markstrom will help at all in the playoffs. Just shut it down for the year. So maybe it's the other scenario lol...

Only goal I would ding Markstrom on is the 3rd goal, bad rebound for a shot that far out but Pesce was covering air. He still looks unsure of his angles and himself, I would definitely shut him down if he's still hurt. It's a joke that this is even a conversation we're having with a number 1

I'm pretty sure the initial shot on the third goal was deflected about 10 feet out, which led to the juicy rebound. Don't get me wrong, Marky's game still isn't where it needs to be but I don't think he's looked as bad in the last 2 games as he did in his first couple games after the injury.

Knight also didn't have a good night at the other end tonight. Like, I don't think either goalie was that bad tonight, they just weren't good either.

Ya the TV crew did allude to the fact it got tipped but I was kinda zoned out a bit when they were up 2 and my initial reaction was how tf did they go in? I gotta see it again to make sure. But again, I'm probably the biggest Markstrom critic here and I don't think any of the goals were that damning tonight. I was more looking at his angles and how he was playing shots and it still felt like he was fighting it a bit
