Not many people have been whining about Fitz trading away Sharangovich recently. Wonder why that is?

*checks NHL.com*

7 points in 18 games, only 3 ES points, despite being 2nd among Flames forwards in TOI/game. It's almost like he is exactly who we thought he was.
No one is winning anything with Yegor on the first line, maybe even second line. Nice player, who is in the best place for his career.

Funny thing is that his shot rate per 60 is up and so he may actually be generating better offense than normal but his shooting was on a heater last year and it’s a little cold this year.

I don’t know where his shots are coming from but it seems like they may be from worse spots since his iXG is lower this year than last.

He’s also playing 2 minute more a game, so I wonder if that hurts his quality as well.

——————-

I’m playing Devils advocate though, I was quick to jump all over people going “look at how awesome Shara is” while he was shooting 20% midway through the year.

Less points (albeit in 9 less games) than resident whipping boy Ondrej Palat.

Has as many points as Kevin Bahl  (in 7 less games)

Worst case you shift Mercer to C on that line I suppose? If Tatar is back he can play RW on that line. Or you just trust the hell out of Dowling to play a simple game between Cotter and Mercer

Ugh, I don't ever want to see Mercer at center. I'm pretty sure about that. 🙂 Cotter might be a better option there.

Nothing to really be the catalyst for whining. I mean Toffoli is long gone, pick is from years ago, but I thought it was a bad trade at the time, thought it was the entire time Toffoli was here and still do. Would take him back with open arms.

Also being injured to start the season gives players anywhere from a half season to a season of runway to get back to form before they can be criticized. I don't make or agree with the rules, but I'll follow em.

I
Gritsyuk and Lenni in more short term perspective. Long term... may be Traff. I didn't saw any game of Pikkarainen this season may be something is there, I had no confidence about him before. We should look at Squires in Utica.

We should definitely start to draft forwards for maximum potential, not just for bottom six physical role.
I’d like to go with the draft philosophy of picking someone with boom or bust potential . Instead of a more conservative approach on a projected “ good” player , I’d like to go with something like where , for example , there is a kid that had a severe injury his draft year , but was a stud the season prior to his draft year , take a chance on him . That’s the only way we get an impact player drafting where we will be ( bottom 1/3 or in the 25+ range in the first round ) . All the sure picks are gone by then. Only way to find an impact player is to take a chance on someone with warts ( injury history , weak at one aspect of the game , late bloomer , potential attitude issues ) . We have the core already in place , we have the luxury now of taking more chances with our picks IMO .
Or maybe reach a little with picks ? Nothing crazy like taking someone a round ahead of where he is projected to go . But if there is a kid that fits a specific need , take him over someone like a random winger . Target to fill a need over best pick available .
Like if someone is ranked by scouting staff in the 35-40 range , but fills a need more so than a little midget winger that is ranked in the 20-30 range , go with the kid that could fill a need .

i said it before he will have the most unassuming 20-30 goal season on a middling team. he will get hot and go on a rip then cool off and quietly finish the season

Who are one potential/ realistic pick up candidates at the TDL or even trade targets now ? What players are rumours circle do yuu guys think might be available ?
I want someone like a Lars Eller or Tuch like player . Someone with size that is hard to play against, has size and speed and can play a good all around game . Doesn’t need to be a 30+ goal guy . Just someone that can get to the middle of the ice , that can get in on the forecheck in a hurry , can play a gritty game along the boards , is defensively sound , and isn’t a total black hole on offence .
Sounds like asking for a lot. Someone like Noesen with more speed and can play C lol

Anaheim was asking for the moon for Vatrano last year, so we'll see what they settle for at the deadline. I remember that they wanted a 1st+prospect for Rickard Rakell in 2022 but had to settle for a 2nd+prospect.

It might be tougher to pull a trade right now since the sellers probably are asking for outrageous prices. Sounded like Pittsburgh did Eller a solid and traded him to a preferred spot. Not sure if Montreal is compelled to do the same for somebody like Evans.

If it's short term, Mercer at center for a handful of games is fine. But yeah, I think Fitz will be looking for a bottom six center at the deadline.

A fun video for Bratter with game #500 on the horizon.

As someone who was there for his, Nico's and Butcher's debut game, I feel ancient.

You have two sons? OMG you are so old. Did you fall asleep in your rocking chair typing out that post?

3.68% on ice sh% at 5v5, 4.90% in all situations. What sample is more likely.to be an accurate representation of a players abilities, an 82 game sample or an 18 game sample with unsustainably low shooting percentages?

This post is going to age poorly, I guarantee it.
