What is so great about this guy? Bright spot? Wedgewood was doing better than him before he got traded.

Literally, there is no reason to jock this player at all.

He's second among NHL rookie goalies in games played, shots against, saves, and FOURTH in save percentage? Fourth out of how many? If we're doing a minimum of 10 games played, how many rookie goalies are there in the league this year?

At this point, he's among the most overrated goalies of this season.

''Oh but Bleed, you say that about every goalie'.

The fact that people point out and rationalize with these dumb articles like that one posted (FOURTH in save percentage among rookies!) that he's not bad, is what makes him overrated.

The fact that this goalie has a small but vocal fanbase and cult like following that even jock him at all, makes him overrated, because he's JAG at best.

The only bit or irony here is that this goalie is not quite as bad as the Devils goalies have been this year.
What's his percentage of softies?

45 goals stoppable, says he's allowed 139.

So 32.37%?

Just skimming over my list a minute ago, it would appear that's fifth most in the league, which doesn't necessarily mean much, considering Hellebuyck is right in front of him with 46 and Hellebuyck has a significantly lower (which means better in this case) percentage of goals I've counted stoppable than my league average. Hellebuyck's high count is a symptom of playing the most games, facing the most shots, allowing the most goals. Hellebuyck is also above the league average save percentage by a few points as well, for what it's worth.

So I got Merzlikins with the most at 51 (he snuck in and had a bender in the last few games to usurp Grubauer AND he's played almost every single game for the Blue Jackets since Korpisalo got shut down for the rest of the year), Grubauer is second with 50. Actually Hellebuyck and Nedeljkovic are tied for third with 46 each.

Then it's Vejmelka with 45 and Hart behind him with 43. I think Fleury is at 42 (I put the list down a minute ago) and Koskinen also with 42. Might be a couple other guys that have hit 40. Koskinen was the closest to Grubauer for a long time, but between maybe counting a little less on him lately, combined with the fact that it's mostly been Smith playing, Koskinen has managed to keep his distance from Grubauer.

Not every BAD goalie in save percentage ranks poorly on my stats. Lankinen has a surprisingly low count on my list, as does John Gibson all of these last 3 years where he's been bad lol.

For what it's worth, Vejmelka has a lower (better) percentage than EVERY. SINGLE. GOALIE. that's played for the Devils this year, not named Bernier.

Well.... Check that. Schmid has a very slightly lower percentage of goals I counted stoppable than Vejmelka.

The fact that I have to see a .903% CHAMPIONED is why I'm as hard as I am on goalies around the league. I set the bar so high, but really EVERYBODY ELSE SETS THE BAR SO LOW!!!!!!!
Ok I’m old as shit now. What does JAG mean? And what does “jock” mean. I get what it means buy seeing the context it’s used in but what I dont get why it’s called jock. You kids and your hippity-hoppity music .

Karel Vejmelka, G, Arizona Coyotes: Vejmalka has been a bright spot for the Coyotes (22-45-5), who are last in the NHL and eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention. The 25-year-old goalie, born in Trebic, Czech Republic, ranks second among NHL rookie goalies in games played (44 games), shots against (1,436) and saves (1,297), all behind Alex Nedeljkovic of the Detroit Red Wings, and is fourth in save percentage (.903) and even-strength save percentage (.915) among rookies with a minimum 25 games.

Vejmelka (6-3, 224) was selected by the Predators in the fifth round (No. 145) of the 2015 NHL Draft, signed a one-year contract with the Coyotes on May 5, 2021 and a three-year contract March 21 to avoid restricted free agency. He made 37 saves in a 2-1 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 31, the highest save total for a Coyotes rookie since Adin Hill made 41 in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 11, 2020.

There are only 5 rookie goalies who have played the minimum 25 games.

Nedeljkovic is 5th in SV% out of that list.

Swayman, Kahkonen and Knight are the top 3, in that order.

I don’t remember there being a lot of rookie goalies playing a ton so when it said he was 4th, I was curious how many more than 4 there were. (One.)

If you lower it to 20 games the list is 6 goalies. Daws, who is 6th in SV%, with .893.

The order in GAA is Swayman (2.28), Knight (2.83), Kahkonen (3.06), Daws (3.16), Ned (3.34) & Vejmelka (3.47).

People like Morreale's coverage of the Devils, but it's hard to read those non-advanced standard stats as if they are a good thing and not laugh.

He played a lot of games and made a lot of saves in losses.

Embarrassed to say there was like a four month period where I watched this show on TNT all the time and had a huge crush on Catherine Bell.
No. It is short for Jaguar . So, he is a Jaguar = fast and agile so he’s sayig that Vejmelka is a good goalie. Ok, I got it now.
Just using this as an excuse to show off my Jag. ;)

I wonder how Blackwoods teammates view him . They would never come out and say anything negative while he is on the team. I wonder if the vaccination stuff rubbed people the wrong way , or any of his injury issues . For example, if he was cleared to come back but refused to play and kept questioning his diagnosis. All speculation on my part but just curious . And the Subban “slewban“ Instagram thing . I pretty sure it’s guys messing around but maybe he doesn’t get along with Subban and was an actual dig? Maybe this crap is why he is rumoured to be on not the best terms in the organization , or it could all be nothing more than our medical staff screwing up . Who knows . We will never hear what is up for certain.I dont see any of that stuff worth beig upset about but ?
Maybe Fitz doesn’t like him that much but I don’t think the players dislike him.

Yeah. I think that if Blackwood was playing well (and wasn't hurt), this sort of speculation wouldn't even be talked about.

I think you and I are actually about the same age, give or take a year. I remember your post several weeks back about playing midget with Chris Mason and Paxton Schafer. Both of whom are actually the same age as I am. They're both actually just a little bit younger. Mason by a little less than three months, Schafer by just a little less than one month.

I remember both of these terms as a young(er) man in the 00's or possibly even the late 90's? JAG might be universally known in the last several years, but some buddies and I were using it then. It's an acronym meaning Just A Guy. Although if you want, you can pretend it means Just A Goalie haha.

Jock is a term I do not see or hear at all in modern times. That's a term that I figure if I said that to a kid or someone in their 20's they'd be like ''Jock? In verbal form? What does that mean? To wrap around one's genitals?''.

Now this was a term I picked up on from buddies that were just a little younger than me, like very early millennials. One of them is @Cage Helmet who I don't think has posted in a minute or two. It was him and his best buddy. Jock in this instance is used as another word to mean to hype something. Sweat was another term we used back in the day, but that could also mean that someone is ''Scared'' or ''Worried''.

I don't think too many teams ''Sweat'' Vejmelka.

I don't think I've heard anyone outside those few close buddies of mine use jock as a verb in probably 12-15 years. Whereas JAG is something I still see or hear out there from time to time.

So if I understand this correctly.. he bypassed a few ELC offers for the chance at our development camp?

Is that with the intention of signing him to an ELC deal eventually (say maybe after another year of college)? And if so Im very excited by our ability to attract talent recently since Fitzgerald has taken over (Brodeur may have to do with this as well).

Seems like a decent player and has great size though very lanky for his height, if EliteProspects is to be trusted. Interested to see where this goes

Yes, he turned downed ELCs because he’s most likely going back to school. The team can pay for first couple of days for first time players (there are more rules than that obviously), then the player has to pay out of pocket.

The hope is to create a relationship with him when he comes to our development camp. He could potentially sign, he is 21, but he likely isn’t leaving college after one year after going to all the trouble to attend as a European player.

Players can also attend more than one NHL team's development camp since they don't all take place at the same time.
