I don't believe Fitz has said that though. Never seen him do an interview where he mentions not wanting to pay a forward more than Hughes.
It's all speculation that has been proven as misleading based off of Julie Robynheimer's Twitter dialogue with fans. It's basically a preference. They'll try to push it to the player, but they'll go over if they think the player is worth it, hence why they didn't mind going over 8 for Gaudreau last summer.
wife and kid just took off from bergen county headed towards montreal with passports, tickets and Brodeur jerseys // while im stuck at home with the non hockey kids.. not sure how this happened
Hughes doesn't get a complete free pass but yes, he started playing poorly after injury. There is a correlation there. Bratt has no excuse, it's just bonehead play after bonehead play. Who does a no look backhand pass from his own corner right up the middle? Who turn the puck over countless times up a goal late in the 3rd at the opposing teams blueline. Who is completely irresponsible with the puck on the half wall up a goal instead of making the safe play off the boards?
Bratt does a lot good, the analytics prove this. However, he is near unplayable in the 3rd up a goal come playoff time.
I don't want NJ to sign Bratt even at a sweetheart deal. Hughes, Hischier, Meier and Mercer are the core to build around plus you have Hughes and Nemec coming. I'm in the stop negotiating look to trade him in the offseason camp.
The thing is analytics of the last 20 games say what people are describing here.
Bratt’s produced a ton of scoring chancing but no one has been giving up more high grade scoring chances against 5v5. A bunch ended up in the net and Ruff is responding to that.
Now we live in a society, if I was going to do a deeper dive I would look at lines and the defensive pairs they play with.
That said, people are flat out wrong to blame this on Timo and Bratt’s numbers sucked in the four games Jack was out.
Also with Jack, one of these players is turning 22 in May and the other is turning 25 in July, I have different expectations here.
Being a scoring winger doesn’t mean your two-way play doesn’t matter at all.
Bratt can do better than this and he needs to because this is big boy hockey and good finishing teams in the playoffs will feast on this.
Ruff can’t just let them do whatever they want out there if these are the results.
This is why Holtz is the AHL, Shara is the press box and Bratt is on the 3rd line.
I can assure everyone Ruff isn’t some wacky contrarian who likes less production. Boqvist isn’t a 1st line forward, though he’s doing an admirable job keeping up.
He’s trying to fix this problem. We won yesterday and our playoff spot is pretty much assured. I don’t have any complaints because I see the problem he’s trying to fix.
Hmmm, I can’t see who everyone is replying to.
Who would have me on ignore cause I don’t have anyone on my list. Imagine Missing out on some legendary HF Devils memes
I agree, but the fact he(Bratt) hasn't done so would imply he's on board with his agent. However, without concrete proof of what the Devils are offering (which we'll never know) it's impossible to know where responsibility for the impasse lies.
Meier isn’t Matthew Tkachuk, that isn’t a newsflash either.
Fitz doesn’t have a “‘won’t pay any forward more than Jack’ philosophy”, he has an internal cap philosophy because all well-run, competitive teams do.
And there’s no defending the baby response to Meier’s production in 3 games. It’s completely meaningless.
Fitz was absolutely right about that too and that doesn’t come out of nowhere either. It comes from his “generally most rentals don’t do much because new players don’t have time to adjust to their new teams”. Which is also true.

I don’t really care about his or anyone’s production in that small of a sample. It doesn’t matter at all. This was just about whose negotiation, Bratt’s or Meier’s, is going to be easier.
I don’t really know. I’m ignorant to how QOs work. I thought he was guaranteed that 10 million but I guess that isn’t actually the case? One guy we know for certain cooks in our system, despite a rough patch. We do not know about the other guy. Plus he’s bigger, scores more goals, and has that QO leverage (again, I don’t know how it really works). I’m sure he will be demanding more money.
I’m assuming it will click eventually for Timo here. I would think Fitz would want to see that before he signs him for 9+ million dollars for the next 8 years?
Hope I'm wrong, but it really could cause the negotiations to go south. Like think about it. If you were Bratt and you decided to take a hometown discount and then some new guy comes in and makes more than you despite not being THAT much better, would you be happy? I think Bratt tries to get as much as he can and Fitz might not cave.
Any player who does not meet the requirements to be an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) is a Restricted Free Agent at the conclusion of their contract. Offer Sheet/Right of First Refusal An RFA may sign with a new team, but their current team has a right of first refusal to match the offer. See...
It seems like a few teams have a weird quirk like this in the month of March. Maybe not the three times in a week, but last week Detroit and Ottawa played two nights in a row with both games in Ottawa. I saw something about another two teams playing two games in a row in the same city this week as well. I just forgot who.
It's weird that we have two straight home games against them. That's shades of the 2021 covid season where everyone was playing 2-3 games in a row in the same city to mitigate travel.

I assume Fitz had a number in mind when he traded for Timo and it wouldn’t really change.
Timo hasn’t performed badly at to me, if I thought he sucked or if he had horrific metrics that would be different. I believe his physicality has been missing from our top end, I don’t see how he’s become any less desirable at all.
If Fitz thought the QO offer made a long term deal unworkable he wouldn’t Han me traded for him while saying the plan is to sign him long term.
I don’t think a 8 year contract for less than 10m isn’t that hard a sell even with the 10m QO offer.
