Even Larkin yesterday. It’s gonna be in that ballpark and I’m here for it.
I did not say what they would get. I said based on counting stats Fiala is an excellent comp

Doesn’t ESPN+ work for you?

I know you’ll miss the couple of NHL network games, but otherwise it’s the same, no?

Actually, I wonder if the ESPN deal is why msg can’t create an out of market offering. There may be some exclusivity given to ESPN in the contract.

ESPN does work but no pre and post. I’d pay for that, just not $30 a month for it.

You’re right though. ESPN may have something to do with it but if everyone charges $5/month it would be $160/month to get the in-game coverage that ESPN provides. I see this as a 1 team add on.

Now that I think of it, I’d pay ESPN the $5 for pre and post if they offered it. I’m probably crazy just to want it but I actually really miss that programming from the old Center Ice.

I really wish they could bring in L. Hughes now. I had a dream last night he was on the team. He was wearing #4 (lol).

This could sound vain, but I do wonder if the imminent arrival of Meier and Hughes spurred some of Boston’s buying.

NJ was already one of the strongest teams in the league and will arguably be adding the most impactful forward and defenseman.

It's a couple of things. 1, I'm sure they view this as their best chance to win a cup with their current core that is on the older side. 2, apparently Hall and Foligno both recently got hurt which led to them going after Bertuzzi.

They're just a dominant team at every position, if they have the means to empty their bank accounts to load up for this run, why not?

The Bruins have 6 Stanley Cups in almost 100 years. They have been to the Cup finals 20 times in 100 years which is very good. But winning only 6 of the 20 times they made the finals is pretty horrible. Stanly Cup wins are the biggest notch on the belt that a organization can have. Shouldn't be too suorisong they are willing go go all in this year.

Saw this in the game thread but it's impressive. Outside of December where we were 4-7-2 (4-9 in W-L) we are an astonishing 36-11.

We started 21-5... so take that one month out... even make it 7-6... and 40-20 becomes 43-17 which is just insane for a team that won 27 games last year.

19-4 in Oct/Nov
4-9 in December (yuck)
17-7 since - only 2 games off the Oct/Nov "wagon" pace. And there have been at least 3 games where we definitely should have won but didn't.

We're 3rd in the league in W-L-OTL points, 4th in scoring, 4th in defense (1 out of 3rd thanks to last night lol), 2nd in wins, T-2nd in total losses, 2nd in goal differential, 1st or 2nd in away record (Bos played 2 more games and is 1-1 in them). 2nd in ROW too. Carolina has benefitted from shootout wins AND losses which is the only reason they're ahead of us in the standings.

4 players 20+ goals, soon to be 5. Tatar has an outside shot at 19-21 goals range. Tatar is 2nd in +/- and Graves is 4th.

Things to work on:
10th at home though (18-13, eh). PK has dropped to 10th from 5th-6th. 17th on PP - but it IS up a bit from below 20th. We get scored on at start/ends of periods too often for my liking.

On goaltending which has been a major problem in prior years:

Schmid is actually 2nd in the NHL in GAA. Ullmark (BOS) is a ridiculous Brodeur/Hasek like 1.88. But 1.98 is 2nd best. Vanacek is tied for 7th (with Sorokin) though with 2.10. (GP 10+).

Schmid is 3rd in SV% with .927. Vanacek is T-19th with Scott Wedgewood (what?!) at .913. Again, GP 10+.

Blackwood at .900 (43rd) and 3.04 (41st).

I am doing something similar to see what kind of impact Meier ends up having. I am noting where the Devils are at in different statistical categories. Also good to note how strong the team has been. I know posters are into the TDL, but I really want to keep this team as intact as possible, They are having a special season that is being obstructed a bit IMO because of Boaton being so good.

Posted this in another thread, but just wanted to post this here. It adds context to the “Fitz doesn’t want to pay any forward more than Jack” rumour and I don’t think it’s been posted other than the original Tweet which is kind of misleading.

——————————————

I’ll also post this here, it gives additional context to the rumours that they don’t want to pay anyone more than Jack. Feel like that has been overlooked by her initial tweet, that made it sound like it was a hard stance, when it in fact really isn’t. It’s a preference that will get pitched, but it’s not a “line in the sand” type of thing.

Seems dumb and makes things needlessly difficult. Jack and Nico's deals were good faith bets. You're not betting here, you know what you have with Meier and Bratt. Flex on the bottom end of your roster, not the top end. The top end of the league is already underpaid relative to their contributions.

9M for Meier / 8.5M for Bratt is fair and something you can live with.

I 100% agree and I’m pretty sure Fitz agrees too. But what’s been posted above is different than saying “I absolutely won’t sign anyone above 8”. Fitz will pitch the idea, because he believes in it, but it won’t stop him from signing Bratt or Meier over 8 mil per. When it’s all said and done, I think we’re getting both of them between 8.5-9 mil long-term.

When it was discussed here, it was discussed as a “line in the sand/I won’t budge” type of thing. It really isn’t.
