Fitz is a pretty candid guy. What incentive is there for him to lie? Bratt backing last year and proving last year wasn't a fluke makes Fitz more comfortable giving him a big contract. A lot has changed since last summer.
Yeah instead of giving Bratt 8 for 8 on a long-term deal off of one great season with a loser team, now he's giving it to him off of two great years on a Cup contender.

As someone who's been on the bandwagon to pay Bratt from his 2021 days and knew a breakout was coming once they got rid of Hynes because he's basically tailored made for a Lindy Ruff system. The first time they didn't extend him long term was fine since you weren't sure how'd he be, last year maybe you corned yourself a little bit with the cap space even though I still think it's a lame excuse. He has next to no excuse this year. The Devils are ascending, you just acquired the last piece from the outside to complete your top 6 in all likelihood and it's time to start competing with this roster.

Honestly, I don't give a shit how we got here, just that we got here. Shero did dome good things, and he did some not so good things. Overall I think he left the team better than when he took over, and left enough pieces for Fitz to continue to build on. Fitz was also here through the Shero era and probably learned a few things from Shero's successes and failures.

I hope this injury talk was a smokescreen (or something genuine that was not that bad) and Timo shows up for practice tomorrow fully armed and operational.

It would be fun to have him against the Avs but keep him out if he's not 100%, an injury to Timo is the last thing this team needs.

While I agree on the one hand...Fitz sounded more definitive on signing him the last two days than he ever has. I think on a certain level now that he's all-in on the team (and Bratt's pretty much proven he's not a total one year wonder), he's probably willing to give out a contract he wasn't a few months ago.
I agree very much here. He sounded confident in the Meier press conference and I don’t think he’d say that unless he felt good about it.
