Question. What’s the view on whether Jack is playing through a nagging injury? Upper body was pretty vague when he missed the 4 games. But from how he’s gotten softer on some of the physical battles I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there is still something. Arm, shoulder, ribs, who knows.

Now that Washington is officially selling, I'm going to say the deal I seek if San Jose won't come to a realistic price on Meier is Tom Wilson and Nick Jensen for Alexander Holtz + Kevin Bahl + Andreas Johnsson.

Wilson as the net-front guy on the Devils 1PP with Hughes, Hischier, Bratt and Hamilton would be devastating. Jensen is no star, but he's an upgrade over Bahl right now. For Washington, Holtz immediately is in their top 6 and Bahl in their top 4. Johnsson of course is a contract dump. This is more than fair value for Wilson, and I don't think the Devils would have to part with a pick in the first 3 rounds to make it work.

I really don't know if I want that headcase on my team.

Also, helping the Caps kickstart a retool/rebuild irks me.

Surely we can find a player out west?

No clue, but when he turns on the jets he goes.. I'm hoping they wouldn't make him play injured..

D for depth? bc we also need that in the bottom 6 lol

I think the need to get someone better than Smith is more important than bottom 6. You want an upgrade over Wood, cool. But I think this team can wear other teams out over a series. Just need to stop making stupid plays and letting teams get behind our D.

It seems likely that Luke will join the team before the playoffs, I'm not sure how helpful a legitimate top-4 defenseman would be at the deadline. I guess adding a depth guy to push Bahl/Smith down (or off) the depth chart makes sense.

I've always coveted Tom Wilson but I worry about his injury(s). Missed the entire beginning of the year, came back, didn't produce, got injured again. Maybe he's buy-low but I'm scared adding him right now.

Where did you see that Wilson is a headcase? He plays with an edge and toes the line but the Devils need that, especially for playoff hockey, double especially because of the team of shitbirds that they'll likely face in the first round.

Wilson is adored by teammates and fans.

Washington is selling their UFAs. I'd be extremely surprised if they trade anyone under contract next year for futures.

wouldn’t let him is more like it. You’d have to rope him to get him off the ice. Only thing I maybe see is him being softer on one on one contact and battles. So that he’s getting turned over on pucks more when moving laterally on zone entries or playing as 3d forward high. But I am far from sure this is correct. The Kings are a very physical team and were battling us tonight one on one all over the ice.

I'm not baiting anyone. I'm asking why you think Wilson is a headcase?

Or maybe you're confusing "goal-scoring enforcer" with "headcase" for some reason?

He's a dirty POS. Go look at his suspensions and fines.

He is the definition of headcase my dude.

Jensen is a UFA and Wilson is 28, coming off major surgery and has one more year on his contract. The Capitals would certainly not hang up the phone if you called up inquiring about trading for those two players.

I would be absolutely shocked if they entertained trading Wilson at all. The Capitals are selling, but they're not giving up on next year. Furthermore, Alex Holtz's most likely path to the NHL involves him playing in the spot currently occupied for the forseeable future by Alex Ovechkin.

He's an enforcer. Look at Trouba's suspensions and fines -- he's the guy on the other side of the red-line when the playoffs start.

When I think of headcase, I think of a guy like Sean Avery who is hated by his teammates, a good portion of the fanbase, and the opposition. Tom Wilson is universally adored in Washington because he fiercely protects his teammates, he plays with an edge, and he also pots 20 goals a season.

He'd be a perfect addition if he were healthy.

Alex Ovechkin plays LW, Alex Holtz plays RW. Right now Washington's top 6 RWs are Oshie and Wilson. Were Wilson hypothetically traded for Holtz, Holtz would take the top 6 RW spot currently occupied by Wilson.

Naturally, Washington would play Ovechkin on the top line and Holtz on the 2nd line, so as to split up the two trigger men and provide one for each scoring unit.

I think of my ideas before writing them on the HFBoards Devils threads at least as much as you think of how to immediately refute them.

SJ fans are borderline delusional on the ask for Meier. Grier can ask for Mercer all he wants, but that would be a monumental Fitz f*** up and completely goes against his philosophy to this point.

On Wilson, sometimes I think we need a psycho on this team. And by the way, Wilson can also play. He’s not Ryan Reaves.
