Who's the only non basement dwelling team the crappy Devs have been able to beat consistently over the last several years? The Pittsburgh Penguins.

Who do several posters want as head coach or at least strong consideration given to? Mike Sullivan. Ya can't make this stuff up.

its almost like the players he has does not fit the system he employs

I know thats a crazy thought

lol, maybe people understand that the Devils aren't the only team in the NHL and that the other 31 teams don't just wink into existence when the Devils play them and then disappear after the game

There's usage problems, and there's going from one of the best defensive defenseman in the league to one of the worst.

I'm not saying coaching/usage/etc don't play into it. Like with any change of this magnitude, there are multiple factors at play. But he covered for Graves last year, and Graves is not particularly better defensively than Luke Hughes according to any stat you like.

"But he's a VET," yeah and he's also a moron who thinks he's Bobby f***ing Orr.

And Marino has looked like dogshit with every partner he's had this year. Bad with Luke, bad with Bahl, and even worse with Siegs. The common factor on every really bad pairing is Marino. If you meet assholes all day...
Maybe. I mean, it's pretty likely that he's somewhere between #6 Penguins defenseman Marino and first pairing shutdown guy last year.

I'm not really sure what defenseman you can point to this year and say 'this guy has definitely not been the problem' except maybe DeSimone lol

We probably going to drop 30+ points from last season.... maybe more

2022 to 2023 63 to 113 +50
2023 to 2024 113 to maybe 82 -31

This has to be some kind of weird record....if it's not a record it's definitely a wild rollercoaster.

I'm going to go to the pub now and ponder this
"and they basically have he same roster as last year"

Emily Kaplan reported during the game against the Blues a week and a half ago that Timo had started feeling 100% about 10-ish days before that game.

He’s kept it going since feeling 100% healthy. Healthy Timo is a damn good player. Good news for us.

It's good to know Timo is actually fitting in here and can play well for this team over a duration of games. I'm not sure the timeline of his injuries. I remember he was out in November/December a bit when Jack and Nico were out too. Seemed like he was fighting the injury for a long stretch and looked really slow out there. Just didn't look interested in the game and was literally killing puck possession. It's pretty clear now that he is healthy though he looks much better but is much more involved in the game. It's still a pretty big contract to live up too and there will be continual pressure the next few seasons that he must live up too and pull his weight. The Devils top 6 and a team as a whole are better when Timo is on his game. Hughes , Hischier , Bratt & Timo is a solid top 4 core forward group to build on regardless of this season's results.

I really just want the offseason to get here so Fitzgerald can make some tweaks to the roster to have this team bounce back next season.

He's not wrong though. Jack and Luke have had their hands held all year. Luke has been handed PP1 time all year and hasn't scored since January.

Luke has gotten that PP1 time because he did great with it early and once Dougie was out we didn’t have much choice.

I don’t know how people can suggest Nemec for PP1, he does a worse job transitioning the puck and he does a worse job keeping the puck in at the point.

I’m not a fan of Sullivan

It's litterately nuts, how his game change. Of course the injuries were influencing his play, but switching his position and giving him PP time finally got us some TimoTrain-Action.

I don't get what Lindy was doing with Timo ... and apparently, it might have been personal between them.

Or maybe Lindy is just a stubborn mule....

It's too bad. Had Ruff adjusted during the injury plague to simplify the defense and focus on reducing opportunities while we were playing so many AHL players, and had Ruff played Meier on RW, and then returned to his system once we had the horses back in the barn, we might be in a playoff spot despite the horrific injury list. But alas, he was stubborn.

If the Pens fire him Fitz will strongly consider Sullivan.

That’s just reality. You can bitch about it all you want but it won’t change that from being true.

Timo should have been moved onto the PP1 sooner, that didn’t happen when he was starting to score and skate better. Plus the PP1 had stopped producing.

But he was obviously hampered by injury earlier in the season.

as defensively bad as we are, this season is on fitz. league average goaltending is all we needed
It's hard to blame him for in-season now that we know that Allen refused to waive his NTC to us and he had a deal for Markstrom in place that fell through. It's not for a lack of trying.

You can place some blame on him for deciding not to address goaltending in the offseason though and for being comfortable relying on Schmid and Vanecek for a team that was supposed to be contending.
