Another issue, IMO, with the All-Star event (skills and game) is league-wide everyone has an entire week off either before or after the weekend of the events. I'm willing to bet the majority of the players attending would much rather have the entire time off and not be anywhere near a rink but do so reluctantly. The entire event is forced with no real enthusiasm.
That's why Seattle doesn't have anybody there. By the time it was confirmed Beniers wasn't going to play they were already on their break. Who wants to walk away from time off with their family in the middle of a long season to go to the ASG?

Although honestly, I stopped caring about the ASG a long time ago. It's supposed to be fun for the people who attend. It's not some sacred showcase of the game of hockey. And honestly, I'm not sure how you would actually make it better. How are you going to make the players actually care enough to not just skate around and half heartedly score after 14 passes because nobody wants to shoot?

One other interesting note on the players cards is they have Fabian “My ass has so many pressure ulcers from how many games I was stuck in the same spot watching Miles Wood suck so much on the ice” Zetterlund at $3.5 million market value I think.

Actually, they have Zetterlund at $4.2 million market value. That’s his surplus that’s $3.5 million.
Zetterlund's numbers are for sure inflated by playing with Nico and Tatar during our most dominant stretch. He is not worth that much at this point.

Zetterlund is pretty good. He had a bit of a hot streak when the team was on that heater but he actually looked good and also did last year when called up. He hit a bit of a slump and has sat for way too many games. Wood went like 20 games without a goal and still played every game somehow. Zetterlund should be in the lineup , he brings actual strength to this forward group with a bit of skill. At one point he was on the top unit of the PP and has that overtime goal vs the Flames back in November. I think Zetterlund will be a good piece for us for the foreseeable future.

Most players market salaries are overinflated and more than what they'd get. Some players have a market value that we really won't see anyone make in the NHL in 2023. So I don't think he's actually worth that much money.

It's hard to tell how much he's worth, but he's certainly a much better player than Miles Wood is this year and likely ever will be again at the NHL level.

I think he’s actually good. Just like he was after getting called up last year on a dogshit team. It’s criminal that’s he’s been on the bench while Wood stinks it up.

Seeing this Allstar Skills debacle makes me glad that Jesper Bratt wasn't invited.

What a waste of time and an absolute CIRCUS that was.

And there will be more of a Circus today with the I-don't-give-a-crap Allstar Game where nobody tries.

They should've just gave all teams a Week Off without any games.

It would've served the same purpose except we wouldn't have been subjected to what we witnessed.

"Subjected" is a strong term for "I voluntarily watched an unimportant event marketed to the locals and kids."

If they're going to continue to do these gimmicks, I'm not even going to bother anymore with watching.

Did they have this BS last allstar game? I forget.

A skill I learned thanks to the instant availability of media everywhere:

If it sucks, turn it off!
oh believe me, I did!

But I ended up missing the Hardest Shot because IT LASTED FOR JUST 5 FRIGGIN' MINUTES!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

ESPN/NHL decided it was more "important" to air PRE-RECORDED Gimmick Events and have them drawn out and take a ton of time than air actual NHL Events.

If this is how the Allstar Events will go, I'm skipping Allstar Weekend altogether going forward.

nice work from Todd

The loss of Marino while he was hurt was bigger than we think . I can’t wait for him to get back . And when Meier gets here …look out

Someone on the main board had some good ideas for the all star skills. Have a free style dangles competition . Make it judged . Players can set up pucks and other shit to dangle around . Stuff like that

Graves' numbers stand out to me as much as Marino's do. It makes me really nervous to lose him. I don't really fear losing Severson and replacing him with a rookie as much (because look at his numbers here in comparison), especially a blue-chip rookie like Nemec or Hughes, but losing Graves' defensive play really does make me nervous.

I don't see much, if any reason that Marino shouldn't be able to go on Monday night, but we've seen guys appear to be ready and come back or they're practicing for weeks, only to be shut down very quickly after that.

Like Miles Wood's random 3 game appearance before ending back up on the IR for the remainder of the year

Or the weird Bernier in the training camp scrimmage thing from this year, which turned into actually travelling with the team as recently as November I think? Then never being heard from again.....

Not to mention his comments to Ryan that he hurt himself again and had a setback.

There’s some speculation that Marino has the same type of shoulder injury Josh Norris had, which he reinjured two games after coming back causing him to miss the rest of the season.
