I hope we can finalize acquiring Meier sooner than later. As time passes , I can see Buffalo pick up steam and decide to be aggressive and try to add Meier. Same as Detroit but I can’t see Detroit makimg a push , but I don’t want to change having another team to bid against

Someone would have to really blow Grier away for him to say “yes” instead of letting teams get antsy and outbid each other. You do always run the risk of cold feet, but there’s more than enough interest and not a lot of alternatives. Horvat isn’t a wing and the other name being floated is…Gustav Nyquist? Hard to believe a deal gets done soon unless multiple teams are already banging down the Sharks door.

Yeah, I don't expect anything to happen with Timo for quite some time. I don't know if they run it all the way to the deadline, but I'd be surprised if it was completed weeks before the deadline or something

MacKinnon won his cup at 26, Crosby won a cup early but then didn’t win another one until he was 28 and 29. Ovi won his cup at 32. McDavid and Matthews were drafted before Hischier and haven’t won shit yet.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t trade for Meier, but it’s not like this urgent trade for a once in a lifetime player. I’m getting more wary of an overpay.

It's going to be close to impossible to have a strong team to compete on Jack's next contract, along with all the other contracts as well. That's the main issue. The other thing is, I think the next few years is the prime window to feast on weaker teams for easy cups, like Tampa did. I don't necessarily think they absolutely must get Meier, but this whole, just wait it out kinda thing is not the path I'd rather go. When a good opportunity comes (like Meier) within the next few years, go for it.

For sure, I'm nitpicking. Simply looking for reasons why we might not be able to go all the way this year. I think the losses against Boston were winnable but it's that level of execution we have to bring. In general, we get behind a bit too often on those kinds of breakdowns - this was true during the streak as well. If Marino is back, I'd argue everyone in the East except for BOS is worse as far as the defense goes.

Hopefully the coaching staff starts to really hammer in on this last stretch and really focus in on stuff that will matter in the playoffs, because I agree..I think an experienced team will feast on it, which is fine...but I wanna see them go far this year, because they definitely can. Just need to clean it up and execute consistently.

Horvat would give the Devils an elite bumper on PP1 + give Jack a more roided version of Haula. Horvat would be the next best option besides Meier. Also chances his price is a lot lower considering Vancouver is a shit show franchise and isn't going to allow extension talks so even less teams to bid against.

Question is do you think the ELC's that are coming are going to be gold for us as a team? If you think Luke Hughes and Nemec absolutely overplay their ELC's then I'd argue going for Meier is 100% worth it because you're going to have a tremendous window before you pay those guys. Not to mention with the cap booming, you can arguably afford their raises simply from the cap going up anyway. Forwards are always going to be available tbh with how sports are now. Hockey players see how football and basketball players come every offseason with asking out + being paid so I do agree with the once in lifetime player thing.

Buffalo is the team that worries me the most, they're playing great hockey, and like us have 2 studs on defense. They need scoring and he would be a great fit there with Tage. Hopefully if Meier is traded, Fitzy can get it done for him to come here! We need him just as much

With the Blues playing like crap and it's looking like they're in danger of missing the playoffs, I wonder if they make Tarasenko available. Maybe he can be a good fit here for a run.. Going to be interesting the next few weeks

They do have 2 studs on D but our direct comps aren’t even in the NHL yet which bodes well.

I'm not particularly interested in extending Sharangovich at 4M. I like the player, but it's pretty clear the coaching staff has no idea what to do with him. If we add Meier that's just going to make the top-6 even more crowded. At this point he is just a glorified PK specialist.

I don't want to give 4M to a guy getting shuttled around the bottom-6 and can't produce at ES because his line mates are Boqvist and Wood or whatever. Especially since they refuse to use him on the PP.

I wonder if we can Kevin Lebanc Sharangovich, another 1 year deal at 2m, with the promise of a larger payday the following offseason when the cap rises

What type of pay increase does he deserve? Leblanc came off a strong season when he took that $1M contract. Yegor is not having a good year and is not showing he can produce outside of playing with Hughes.

If we are adding Meier, I would be okay with Yegor being a part of the trade. He would likely be stuck on the 3rd line where he hasn't been productive.

Also, I was shocked to just find out that there are games all the way up until Wednesday of next week. I assumed that tonight or tomorrow was the last night before the break. That extended rest period compared to some teams seems like a massive advantage

Said it before and i'll say it again. If we're getting Meier, then any prospect outside Luke and Nemec is on the table for me.

Holtz, Gritsyuk, Casey, Muk, Bahl, Walsh, Foote, Stillman and either of the 23/24 1st round picks. Any combination, whatever they want.

Timo is a natural fit on this roster. Being able to roll out any combination of Hughes, Hischier, Bratt and Meier is just insane.

Yup, and we need it, regroup, rest and come back strong.

Even if we lose tonight, our last 2 weeks before the break have been good. 6-2-1 in our last 9 games. I’ll take that any day.

I’m also pretty confident we can pull a W tonight.
