And San Jose only has two salary retention slots now because the traded Burns is taking up one for 3 years. Teams like to keep those slots open.

It’s easy to say “they won’t mind” and “we can make it worth their while”.

If Carolina and/or Buffalo bids, they don’t need any salary retention or cap dumps. How much are we adding to beat them out and make SJ not mind? Can it work with their own current cap hell?

I don’t feel the need to figure out specifics because 1) cap shit sucks 2) I never predict any of this sort of stuff right ever, but there’s some wishful thinking involved when people simply assume San Jose will be incredibly accommodating with cap space in a Meier trade this early season.

I am not entirely sure how we make it work. Hypothetically let's say we send Yegor and Holtz over.

That would free up a bit less then $3 million. Combined with the space we have (and idk how bonuses work here), combined with the space we have currently that gets us to $4 million.

That's $2 million short. If we can find someone to dump Mango on that would get us there with room to spare.

We could also ask San Jose to retain some of Timo's salary, it's only for the rest of this season so I think that is doable if we throw an extra pick in.

Besides that the only other cap move is to trade Graves or Severson

The contract limit situation makes it hard to send any cap dumps back on top of them not having space.

Yeah I remembered hearing that and was like did they ever confirm what the injury was before?

Are we sure Carolina wouldn't need to dump salary? They are already using $3 million in LTIR

They’re listed on Cap Friendly as having 3.1m left under LTIR but that’s just for Gardiner and Kase without Pacioretty being officially on the LTIR yet.

Pacioretty has a 7m cap hit, they have ton of it.

edit: Kase might come back so 1.5m might not be available but that’s still 8.6m.

Isn't there a limit to how much LTIR you can use?

***WARNING WARNING CAP SHIT I COULD EASILY BE WRONG. WARNING WARNING***

It works differently during the season vs when players go on the LTIR at start the season like Bernier did.

If a player is injured during the season you get salary relief for their whole cap hit.

If they go on the IR on the first day of the season, you only get salary relief for exactly how much you go over the salary cap that day.

So teams actually juggle their opening day roster to try to exactly match, as much as possible, how much they will be over the Salary Cap with cap hit(s) of the player (s) on LTIR, to maximize the salary relief.

I would play Vitek against Nashville and then see how he is going into Friday’s game. If he feels fresh enough there’s a bye week coming up.

Not to get too off topic...but yeah, I expect it to be bad. They fired all of the cops involved I think, which kind of tells me a lot about what this is going to look like.

I dealt with some riots when I Lived in Cincinnati in the early 2000's...definitely be safe for those goigz

Smiths bad, but a manageable level of bad. I’ll yell at him but he’s not in the top 3 biggest problems on the roster.

I just don’t get why people claim he’s actually good or that they would rather him than Luke, even straight outta Michigan.

Then watch some Michigan video or games from Team USA at the recent World Juniors. Luke is all over the place and frequently not where he should be; things you sometimes get away with in the NCAA or against 20-year-olds.

He would be a liability at the NHL and even more so in the playoffs when games are tighter and positioning is crucial.

I mean, just look at this hard hitting piece of analysis from them...

For some reason I thought Upshall hit 60 points at least one of his seasons in PHI or NASH, so I looked his #s up and WOOF. dude got more publicity for his “looks” than his skill.

And O’Brien oozes “tribal tattoo” vibes.

I wouldn't assume the style Luke is playing today is what you'll get when he transitions to pro hockey. NCAA Dmen play a much more wide open style in general.

Besides I don't think Luke is the kind of player you want nail down to a ridged structure. With his skating ability you want him taking chances, skating the puck and making plays

But yeah, it's going to take him some time to figure out the league just like it does every Dman.

He'll be sheltered and limited for a while when he comes into the league until he can figure out what he can or can't do in this league...but his skating ability and puck handling skills are going to allow him to do a ton of stuff in the NHL that other Dmen just can't.

I can't imagine Lindy not playing Blackwood in one of the two games. I am not saying I agree with that, it's just seems to be the Lindy way.

We're a speed team that gets clutched and grabbed constantly and average the 2nd least power play time in the league. Yea that makes sense.

I’ve watched quite a bit. He’s not nearly as bad as you think. And you’re implying he would play the exact same way at the NHL level, where he would be our 6th guy versus how he plays in college or at the wjc, where he is deployed very differently and asked to play very differently.

Guy is an elite prospect, you gotta give him a shot. If he’s absolutely unplayable, fine, but I watch the devils every night and KNOW smith sucks. Luke might suck, or he might not, or he might suck but also be so dangerous that it doesn’t matter.

Should, yes. But we have 2 of the top 5 defensive prospects in all of hockey and much of our core D signed for a while (not including Graves who I would like to extend).

It would hurt losing Casey, but if there’s a position we could withstand that loss in, it’s on D.
Only issue with acquiring Meier if they sign him and Bratt they would be tough to sign Graves too....

It actually does make complete sense when you remember how games are officiated. Since the general rule is to try and call an even amount of penalties and we play a cleaner game then we’re penalized less and get fewer PPs
