Not too unusual, I'm reminded of Damon Severson's RFA deal which he signed a few days before training camp. As I remember it, the team gave him short and long term offers, so the ball was in Damon's court with whether he wanted security or risk betting on himself with a bridge deal.

Most of the top RFAs remain unsigned, so maybe a bit of a game within the game with regards who signs first and sets the market. I miss CapFriendly on days like this, but it looks like Swayman, Seider, Raymond, Jarvis, Harley, Beniers, Perfetti, and Sillinger are still working on their deals.

TG was great, but I was annoyed with one post during the 2012-13 lockout. Team Sweden sent out its preliminary WJC camp roster and some Devils posters were alarmed that Adam Larsson wasn't included. TG tweeted out something like "he wasn't invited" which fed to some fans' paranoia about how far Larsson's stock had dropped in just a year since other guys from the 2011 Draft class were going to the WJC.

But Larsson wasn't invited because he wasn't eligible as a late 1992 birthday. As I remember it, TG was a little defiant and maintained that Larsson wasn't invited due to merit before eventually retracting.

Nothing will beat his "I'll let you get back to your fantasy about trading for Kovalchuk" comment a few hours before we traded for Kovalchuk.

Though by then (paying Simon) you can remove Palat Hamilton Dillon Markstrom, would need cheap talent either coming up or through free agency to fill out

It’s on the team to protect the goaltenders, and it’s on the goaltenders to protect the team. We’ll make sure we get that process right.”

So he's part of the crowd here that thinks it was moreso the Defense than the Goaltenders that was the issue.

Yes, but maybe indirectly. If Markstrom sucks bad enough, Fitz himself might get fired and then you’d expect a new GM to clean house entirely.

My opinion this past season was a combination of goal goaltending and defense combined. This happened because of bad input to Fitz from Ruff and Fitz not being able to pull the trigger on the deal he wanted. I think Ruff promised and didn't deliver. As for before this past season, we had bad goal tending since the last season of Brodeur. Schneider gave us one maybe two good years during this time frame. I hope the fix is here, now. KEEFE will deliver a better combination of defense and goal tending. FITZ improved the defense and we are getting back our injured defensive star.

When you roll the dice with questionable/unproven goaltending multiple times, chances are it's going to blow up in your face at some point. It didn't in 2022-23 but then we tried it again and it did. How much of it was something a goalie coach can actually change midseason? How much was the defense? How much was it just a questionable/unproven goalie being questionable/unproven?

We have more proven goaltending, better defensive depth, and a coach who has gotten good defensive results out of arguably a worse defense than what he should have to work with now. If the goaltending sucks again Rogalski may be the least of the changes in management next summer.
