Maybe I'm reading more into it than is there, but from the way we heard about Wood still not skating earlier this off-season, I don't think there's a world where he plays 82 games this year.

Does anyone even remember exactly how he got hurt? I don’t recall anything obvious happening, he was just not in the lineup due to a mystery injury and before you knew it months had gone by and it was like oh I guess it’s serious!

Just read up on it…injured during a preseason game. I don’t remember that at all.

I hope he plays early enough that he gets a chance to show he might still have some sort of NHL career.

Wood is cooked, he relies on speed and has just had a major hip injury/surgery and he’s not the brightest player. The odds of him being near to where he was prior to injury are slim to none
As much as I like not to count people out, injuries are where I become a big downer. Not necessarily for minor or even 'major' ones but in certain places as to not affect their game so much

Woods injuries have to do with his skating and his speed is everything. Id love to see him come back to form but Im not getting my hopes up, unfortunately.

if he misses the first 28 regular season games, he can still make 82 games during the season. ;)

I want 4 seventh games. even if we will lose one. It would be mean this team is on the right track.

It'd be healthier for me than coveting top draft prospects by Christmas again.
I like prospects. Very much. Watch a lot of hockey. but I prefer to find more interest in myself to watch nhl games.

That would mean we lost the Cup in Game 7 of the SCF. No thank you.

I can’t help but read this with Nico’s accent in my head
So reading between the lines, I can't figure out if he's happy that NJ has moved on from Suban or not. Beyond that, I cannot imagine he's happy that Zacha left although he does sound happy they added Palat and he sounds genuine in saying he thinks the roster is better this season. Thanks for sharing that.

I know he’s bizarro but I still enjoy some Stan Fischer content.

Matt and the Maven was fun stuff.

Anyway, this is the Maven on Jack Hughes.

“I was there so I can confirm the following about slow starts for Hall of Famers.

1. Jean Beliveau: Arguably the finest center in NHL history, Le Gros Bill required more than three years of the big league game to finally reach full Cup-winning stardom in 1956.

2. Guy Lafleur: The heir apparent to Beliveau in Montreal, the Canadiens Flower failed to bloom in his first few years before finally turning on to Superstar Boulevard.

And so it will be with Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils. He has battled through the build-up-to-a-letdown seasons and is ready to take the same giant step over the moat and into the realm of greatness.”

But was he there when the courage of men failed?

Stan was best friends with some guy named Mairon. They drifted apart but Stan heard Mairon got up to some bad stuff. Very successful but not someone you want to be associated with.

Mukhamadullin as well. If he fills out his frame and can pick up his pace he has a chance to be the other lefty.

Considering both he and Luke Hughes have played the right side at times, perhaps the Devils will move on from the antiquated notion that defensemen are incapable of playing on their off-side; instead playing their six best defensemen.

Watching Vatanen and Severson seeing tons of ice time the past two years based solely on the way they held the stick was paimful.

Did we have two defenseman after Hamilton better than Severson?

I'm no coach but have read enough to believe it's not antiquated and the system exists in just about every organization for good reason.

Is Gritsyuk a possibility to make the team this year? Or is he still signed to play in the KHL?
