If this really makes it to arb tomorrow, the second we take the 1 yr arb deal immediately start shopping him
I too dont see the need to keep him any longer than it takes to find a sufficient deal

Whether thats next week or an hour before the trade deadline; as long as Bratt isnt a Devil post deadline.. otherwise you just slashed his value in half.

That was absolutely hilarious given all we've seen from him is that he's a happy go lucky kid haha.

Someone's going to have to look this up but I THINK if a player is signed to an arb awarded deal, they can't be traded for a year.
I was curious about that, damn it lol

Problem with that is it becomes a hostage situation with Bratt's impending UFA doom the year after next. You thought negotiations were hard this time?

If Bratt makes it to arbitration and gets the 1-year deal... Well, sadly it means hes very likely gone by the trade deadline.

You cannot lose Jesper Bratt for a Debrincat-type return. That will set us back big-time. And Fitzgerald probably wont let it happen
Go put him on the trade board and see what sort of returns are postured as a two year rental for him. I'll guess they end up looking like the DeBrincat return after you sort through the Ryder Halak and a second proposals. It's not a trade the team wins. The only good news would be that there will be other good players you can pay the exorbitant UFA rate to sign.

If that was true, itd be team-elected arbitration. Bratt chose to do this so it wouldnt qualify

if they could get a top 10 pick for Bratt Fitz would jump all over it. He had one good year.

Disagree. 55 games is pretty much normal starter workload. Very few 70+ game seasons now.

If youre saying a single season isn’t enough - that goalies can go up and down in a year - I understand that

That's kinda where I'm at. Especially for a young goalie, over multiple whacky covid seasons with injuries.

I'm guessing if you asked enough of the main board geniuses they'd tell you DeBrincat only got a pick as high as he did because it was a bad draft and he'd return a third in next year's draft which will require trading McDavid and Draisaitl together to return a top fifteen pick. The reality is that long term the team can of course do better with a pick and prospect if they pan out but short term it's hard to see a team offering a similar player with team control. Why would they? NJ may have to settle for someone else's disgruntled player or another player that NJ is willing to overpay on a longer deal.

Yegor Trenin of Nashville supposedly had his arbitration hearing today. Why haven’t we heard anything yet of him signing. Awfully quiet. Hope it’s not like that tomorrow for jesper.

How many actual hearings typically take place during a given off-season?

0 or 1. There was a year recently that had a few but most were for fringe players. Winnipeg has had two guys go to arbitration recently (Copp, Trouba).

You won't hear anything for 48 hours. If the hearing happens, we won't know the contract until Friday.

It's not enough to get a true picture of what? That he's shot for good? Or that he wasn't good in those 55 games?

I would say it's absolutely ENOUGH to get a true picture that he hasn't been good since that span started.

That does not indicate that he can't return to how he played before that, but I'm not personally betting that he'll regularly be a .915% goalie in a league where the average save percentage has been .908% and .907% these last two years.
Yeah, I just disagree. It's been a pretty interesting set of years to paste together with COVID and the injuries.
