Apparently there is a possibility Filip Gustavsson could be on the block in minnesota? Any time for him as a trade option this summer?

If he really could be potentially available, I think I can get onboard with that. Age would fit. Plus he is still RFA after next season, so team controlled. Would be giving it a go that he can rebound. A suddenly intriguing option for me if realistically out there.
The Athletic has an article about Gustavsson. The biggest thing with him seems to be fitness level. Another thing Gustavsson pointed out is that mentally he needs to be much stronger in the net.

Also: "There’s little doubt that Hynes talked pointedly to Gustavsson about his fitness level because Gustavsson openly talked about needing to come into camp in “the best shape I can be” next season and also volunteered, “I have some personal things I need to sort out to be even better for my own sake going out and play goalie every night.”

Someone wrote in the comments section:

"The message about fitness and practice habits was the number 1 message that Dean talked about giving Gus coming into his first Wild season, and he noted that it had been something that held Gus back with prior teams and early that season. This wasn’t new critique for Gus, and that makes this season a pretty big cautionary mark for him."

Another one had a proposal in the comments section:

"If the Wild move Gus, I'm hoping it's to move up in the 1st round to take one of the top defenseman in the draft. 13 and Gus for pick 10?"

Any thoughts?

Trading down three spots to pick up a legit tandem goalie? That seems like reasonable value for us, but I have no idea why the Wild would do that.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I totally deserve to have hockey players on the New Jersey Devils. Not to sound too entitled but I feel like it’s a requirement.

There’s so much maybe implied and maybe not in those quotations. Is he implying that has been a problem? If so, as to whom?

I respect Fitzpatrick and his judgment a lot. He isn’t the smoothest individual with the press and I think that is an advantage. Because I hate empty PR stuff. But there are definitely times lately, like this, where I think he would have done better to leave things unsaid.

It’s not the things you didn’t say that cause difficulties in this world, as much as the things you do say that you can’t get back.

Or you can just take it at face value and not overthink it.

He’s talking about the culture he wants going forward. You don’t have to see it as veiled pointed criticism of particular players.

Agreed. I understand a lot want to examine every Fitz quote for some veiled and cryptic messages, but at the end of the day, Fitz has proven to be pretty blunt and explicit.

He hasn’t sugarcoated his remarks about Holtz, he has directly expressed concern with the goaltending, he was transparent about the Meier negations and needing to sell Meier on NJ and the organization a bit. Hell, even when Shero was let go, Fitz’s first conference call he pretty much admitted he was nervous but excited for the challenge. There are way more examples I’m not even listing.

Gustavsson is signed for two more years at $3.75 million. If they trade him, it feels like Minny is basically dumping his deal.

I can see the value of trading #10OA + rights to Kakhonen for #13OA + Gus, but is that really an upgrade for the Devils?

A professional athlete who has to be told multiple times to get in shape? I'm not sure that's a good fit right now.

No you don’t have to take it that way. But it’s inevitable that some people will. I wonder about it and have seen a good deal of speculation about it and that’s why I think he should have found a better way to say it or not to have said it at all.

In particular I wonder if he’s frustrated with the Hughes brothers.

That's the way I took it as well. They needs a strong coach with a structured system, and then there needs to be some ramifications when these guys freelance a bit too much.

his quotes were so dumb and ambiguous, he may as well have said nothing at all.

I think he's pissed at Hischier. The way Nico drafted himself first overall, blackmailed the organization into offering him a long term second contract, held the organization hostage to make himself captain, and then had the unmitigated gall to end up as a 3C and reject a move to Winnipeg or Columbus when they could have traded him for Laine.
