Holtz's season was historic because virtually NO top 10 pick that can score goals at the rate he did stays in the AHL for as long he did...I'm not sure that is a positive at all.
As always there’s definitely more factors involved here. Lack of development from COVID shortened seasons is a big reason for him staying down there. Plus it’s always best for European players to have a season or so to adapt to NA hockey.

Once it was clear he wasn’t completely ready, the team definitely wanted to have his entry level slide too. He’s far more valuable to the team (and as a trade asset) with three more years on an ELC.

The guy won won a Cup and two Presidents trophies with the Capitals.
So a team full of north south and bigger players? I’m not saying he can’t coach the Devils but like some will say Torts wouldn’t be a good fit I’m curious if Trotz would have fit issues? Has he ever coached a small soft offensively oriented team? Obviously NJ needs to play better defensively and he has credentials for that. If NJ comes calling hopefully he is adaptable.

Brooklyn via NJ, like the Nets

Not a doubt in my mind that Fitz's hiring or passing on Trotz is contingent upon them agreeing on how to play. Both will need to make compromises. But if they do... we might see something special.

As long as they can be honest with each other about it. That aside does Trotz want to jump right in or maybe sit home for a year collecting his contract before returning?

I think Trotz could work here...but NOBODY would like the results.

Trotz has been running virtually the same program for 23 years...I don't think a coach with his experience and history "changes".

If Fitz (who played for Trotz) and Devils ownership aren’t side his house by noon, they are a complete failure.

Trotz is available if we want to neuter Jack and slow the game down.
I'll take that if it means winning games & getting to the playoffs. If Fitz doesn't jump on this I lose all faith in this organization. One of the best coaches is available we would be straight up dumb to not go after him.

I thought the same thing about him going with the Caps. It turned out really good for them. I'm not convinced it would work out, but I'm definitely curious.
The Caps were in a much different situation though. They were a veteran team with established stars who were already fully developed.

I also don't see Trotz coming here with teams like Vegas and other more established contenders likely knocking on his door. And that's in the event that he even decides to coach again.

Someone like Boudreau is just a much better fit for the Devils right now.
