If he isn't saying that he's definitely coming back, then I'm gonna say he might be waiting to see who pops up once the true offseason begins and then he pops him over the summer.

Or Ruff pieces together a ''Resignation/retirement'' speech by then and works his last year doing something else that isn't the head coach or any kind of main coach here.

Defenseman Dmitri Kalinin was a whole lot better at scoring points than the crappy forward Sergey Kalinin that we had. And he only even had 30 or more points in a season just once.
He did score a really nice goal against the Rangers though so thats always a plus in hindsight.

Shero should call Fitz up and let him know keeping Ruff is probably bad for him and the team.
Yeah, we are DEFINITELY in October of 2019 (that's when Hynes SHOULD have been fired) with the Ruff experiment right now. We're certainly not in April/May of 2019 with Hynes, that's for sure.

As I've constantly pointed out, they weren't canning Hynes after the 18-19 season, he had just made the playoffs the year before. I thought extending him all those years was stupid (considering I'm pretty sure he went into that year as a lame duck anyway), he probably should have been extended just one more year at that point and if we missed the playoffs or got off to a bad start (like we did) we fire him (like we did) but he's done after that year. It doesn't matter anyway because Nashville started paying him the money he was owed about 35 days later, but that was too much of a vote of confidence.

However, I do maintain that it was too much to ask for and too much to expect Hynes to be fired in the 2019 offseason.

He really should have been fired whenever Fitz got sent down to the bench to babysit. That was entirely stupid and made no sense. That was just a ridiculous method of life support.

I don't think it's too much to ask for or too much to expect Ruff to be fired right now. People said that Shero stuck by Hynes too long, but probably only by about 6 or 7 weeks, not by an entire offseason. Ruff coaching a game here next year is just officially too long with him.

I’m not as passionately on team “Fire Ruff” at all costs as some seem to be, but I think clearly there needs to be a change. Doesn’t matter if he’s been dealt a rough hand, and yes, Hughes, Hischier, and Bratt have broken out under his guidance, but especially this past season, it was clear that the Devils did not come ready to play on a nightly basis - that’s on Ruff. How many games were over in the first period? Even the games they won, how many of them did they have to climb out of a multi goal deficit?

Then he better make a BIG SPLASH this offseason in the goalie department.

One that ensures Ruff don't start throwing Blackwood out there once the new guy starts struggling. Ruff seems to really get it up for Blackwood the same way Pete did for Marty in 13-14 and Martin Jones which definitely got him fired a little bit quicker in San Jose.

Alright well Zacha is definitely gone lol
Good.

It's about f***in time.

I'd like to see Blackwood GTFO too. If we acquired someone that was REALLY GOOD, we won't even think twice about him. His contract is up anyway. What are we gonna sign him to another 3 year deal if he has a really good season, after highly underperforming for the first two years of that deal?

Nice selling by Fitz there, hope other GM's are listening. Really good player

;)
He's not a bad player, but we could probably find guys producing CLOSE to what he was on WAYYYY cheaper deals than what he has coming to him.

I really do think ONE of these 3 guys (Zetterlund, Boqvist, Holtz) will score at a rate comparable to what he would have. None of them will even cost much over a million at most and Holtz is still on his ELC, so less for him. Zetterlund has barely played, so I can't see him getting paid over a million? Boqvist? Maybe slightly more, but I doubt he'll get nearly what Kuokkanen or Sharangovich got last offseason.
