I think Tortorella is going to do wonders for the flyers... There isn't much in Philly and you can't get blood from a stone but I'd bet that he pulls them out of the basement within two years
If they're not out of the basement in 2 years then he's probably fired. If they're not out of the basement in 2 years then Chuck Fletcher is almost assuredly fired. If he gets fired then the new GM may or may not replace Torts and if he doesn't, it probably won't be much longer before Torts is gone.
Bet he’s gone within 4
4 years is longer than the average NHL head coaching tenure, though it's not quite as long as the average Tortorella coaching tenure.

I can't see this lasting that long. Chuck Fletcher will be gone before that. Doesn't mean the new GM won't keep him, but I wonder if the next GM after Fletcher goes for a rebuild and if he goes for a rebuild then he likely won't keep Torts.

Last rebuild Torts was really a part of was when he first got hired in Tampa Bay over 20 years ago, which was really his first non-interim NHL head coaching job.

He's going to turn a bad team into a mediocre team. Torts is a pretty good coach. He's absolutely the wrong coach for the Flyers. The last thing they need is a coach that will prop them up and get them out of the basement and into mediocrity. They need a rebuild. Mediocrity is the Philly way though.

How many times do we need to point out that statistically the team was better than several playoff teams last year, but was just absolutely sunk by bad goaltending and a bad power play that were both so bad it is almost statistically impossible that they're that bad again.

Are we just ignoring statistical probabilities?

Yes that is exactly what people are going to do. I think it's possible albeit unlikely that the PP ends up being as bad. If they bring in another shit PP coach it could suck. The talent though is good enough that if they bring in someone who knows what they're doing it should be good. Goaltending wise though it's realistically insanely unlikely it ends up anywhere nearly as bad.

He would solve our 3rd line center issues perfectly and productive wingers are always easier to replace.

I’d like bring in like Fiala + Puljujarvi/Mikheyev. Yegor, Bratt, and Fiala as 3/4 of the top 6 wings and then you can rotate Mercer between top 6 wing with Boqvist as the 3C and Puljujarvi/Mikheyev as 3rd line wing, and then 3C Mercer with Puljujarvi/Mikheyev as a top 6 wing. Figure out what works better in camp and preseason

Seems like a better option for me than overpaying a bottom 6 player at center

My first choice (like most) is Slaf, but if we have to take Wright, i won't lose sleep. It's still a big win to me. Injuries happen. He can go from 3C to 2C, 1C VERY fast. Like a lot of people say, center depth is the most difficult.

I imagine most would have Wright as their first choice.

Ok I bet he is gone in two years - what’s the wager?

On these boards at least, it's overwhelmingly Slaf. A few for the two RD's in between.

That’s because we’re all just operating under the assumption Wright won’t even be there. I don’t think it’s a 2019 Rangers scenario where they were happy to not get Hughes and wanted Kakko more

I already took the under in 4. I got sweet odds why would I renegotiate 😂
Hard to square that someone actually believes that Tortorella will get Philly out of the basement in two years but thinks he won’t make it 4 seasons if he actually accomplished that.

Pity the analytics team that gets sucks in by Puljujarvi guy is a slug. 14 goals with some of the linemates he had is a joke

So, when you guys say just take Wright and figure it out later, what exactly do you mean? Nico and Jack are both centers, period. Maybe they can try switching Wright to wing, is that what you're thinking of? I don't see him being satisfied just staying as 3C on a team forever.
