Yeah.

---------------

Also, am I mistaken or did Bratt's last contract kinda drag on too?

He signed on Jan 10, 2021 and our first game was on Jan 14, so yes, it kinda did.

Thanks to a COVID slowed visa process, the first game Bratt played in was on Jan 28th. He missed the first 6 games.

His agent filed for arbitration with all his current NHL clients when they were able to as RFAs. (All two of them, though he pulled that move twice with Ullmark.)

I don’t think arbitration would work in Bratts favour though so it could be a risky card to pull. He would likely get much less than he wants and that would give the devils some leverage.

His options out of that could end up coming down to:

Take this cheap 1 year contract and hope you have another great year to drive up your value and earn a big contract next off-season where he’ll be an rfa again.

Or

Take a long term decent value contract from the devils.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that because arbitration doesn’t likely work in Bratt’s favour given his previous production IMO.
He probably get’s much less than he’s asking for on a one year deal and then he’ll be an rfa again in a year. And I’d imagine Bratt will want a long-term deal.

It does give team a real deadline, hold outs don’t really work for most guys. You might be right though, we’ll find out soon enough.

Let's get something new going. Vancouver poster suggests the Devils are desperate for a Subban replacement and a top scoring veteran with veteran leadership qualities.

This is the deal:
Quinn Hughes and JT Miller to the Devils

2022 and 2023 Devils 1sts + Pavel Zacha to Vancouver.

Believes the Quinn move as a marketing piece in NJ is a gem. All 3 Hughes brothers together.

Miller -
'22-23 $5.25mil
'23-24 UFA

Hughes -
'22-23 - '26-27 > $7.85mil/per yr.

vs

Zacha -
RFA who was making $2.25 mil

Cost to the devils beside the picks is an increase of $10.85 mil to their cap for '22-23
If they keep Miller he will be going for at least $9mil provided he put up the same kind of numbers:

80GP/32G/67A/99 Pts

Hughes numbers:

76GP/8G/60A/68Pts

What say you?

I say this would never happen as Vancouver has specifically named Quinn as one of their untouchables. The only way you possibly get Quinn is through dealing Jack which obviously never happens

Vancouver is getting screwed in that deal. Columbus got more for Seth Jones.

Been poking through this thread and noticed not many people talking about Filip Forsberg. Is he not a fit? I thought that could be a good add to line 1 with Hughes and Sharangovich

On another note, what makes a good 1st line? Is it 3 guys that can create offense? Is it ok if one player is a defensive stalwart? Do you want the video game style playmaker goal-scorer power forward? How do people think about that?
He is absolutely a fit. More so than Fiala. And he wont cost any asset other than cap space.

Perfect defense. We should bring Butcher back!
Hughes Hamilton
Hughes Severson
Smith Walsh
Butcher

that will be awesome. Will it be?

Always a problem IMO when an article starts off by using the Flyers as an example of what a team should be doing. It is easy to criticize management during a down period. It is not always evident that a team is doing the right things during a rebuild. This classic HFB thread deserves a look after last nights 7-0 blowout.

Insane that you can get paid to write an essay about how Claude Lemieux should join the Devils FO. A premise based on zero actual reporting.

I think many are reacting to the Brooks piece unfairly. You’re reacting to the solution Brooks proposed call the problem he’s been consistently identifying.

For a while, he’s said the Devils are “less than sum of their parts.” For a while, he’s said that the management structure is the problem. For a while he’s said Lindy isn’t the right guy.

Now he’s suggesting a solution.

Fine if you disagree with the solution, but personally I think he’s right on the problem.

I’m not sure changing our Fitz is necessary. But, Brooks is saying what many on this board have been saying: if Fitz is putting his butt on the line by riding with Ruff.

I agree with Brooks that it is very frustrating that we are keeping Ruff, especially given the quality coaches that have been and are on the market currently.

I do not agree with Brooks that we should hire Claude freaking Lemeiux

To Tor- Alex Holtz, Pavel Zacha, Reilly Walsh and a top 5 protected 23 1st

To NJ- William Nylander, Nick Robertson, and Petr Mrazek

Nylander gives us a top 6 goal scoring threat who happens to go way back with Jack. Robertson is a decent middle 6 prospect with good potential. Mrazek is coming off of an injury plagued season and is only 29. I think he could be due to have a bounce back and could be a really solid 1b like he was in Carolina. Due 3.2M for 2 more years. Maybe ask for 1M retention from Toronto. This trade also enables us to keep 2OA and draft Slafkovsky.

Who also happens to have only 2 years left on his contract and I’m not really interested in trading major assets such as Holtz and a potential pick in the 5-15 range next year for 2 years of Nylander.
Mrazek also isn’t the type of reliable goalie we should be targeting at all so I’m not really interested. Shouldn’t be counting on a bounce back and we’ve had enough trouble with injury plagued goalies.

I also don’t see why Toronto would be interested in Zacha or Walsh and they come out of this trade as a worse hockey team which isn’t their goal. It gives them the 1st round pick which I guess they could use to make further deals to improve their team and it’s gives them some cap space but Nylander isn’t a cap dump with how good he is. If they’re trading for him they need to get a very good player in return.

Wouldn’t like this deal for either team.

If I was the leafs I would be targeting Mercer, Severson, Wood, and Graves. Mercer isn’t really attainable and the price for Severson would be pretty big but doable. The Devils could also retain on him and Severson at 2M would be incredibly valuable. But I’d rather we try to resign him.

Mrazek sucks and has been bad since about 2016. He's had more bad years than good years in his career at this point.

We shouldn't be taking him for the purpose of playing him because he's merely more of the same of the flotsam and jetsam we have in nets. I would say he's worse than Blackwood and I am absolutely as low as you can get on Blackwood, but I've also been banging the drum on just how much Petr Mrazek sucks for about 6 years now.

He's had one above average season since 15-16 (18-19). His 12 games of .923% in 20-21 don't count.

I'm pretty sure he's been a .905%-ish goalie over his last 200 games played. He's gotta be, considering his career save percentage is .909%, which is heavily inflated by his first 90-something games in the NHL of .920%-ish.

Oh god, it's actually .903% since the start of the 16-17 season. And the league average in some of those earlier years was still like .912% and not .907% like it was this year LOL.

Mrazek is probably the second to worst goalie in the NHL (that's STILL in the league) in that time to Korpisalo. He sucks so much. I'm not sure why Dubas gave him a 3 year deal. Because of TWELVE f***in games of .923% last year?
