I do get why SC gets some heat, but some of you act like they are a detriment to the game.
There is nothing wrong with a strip club either...but you probably don't want to have your players seen there....or your priest.

Yeah but one of your players spends enough time at the strip club, maybe he won't have a romantic partner to force them to move to Ohio (or Manhattan or Los Angeles etc etc). That's value.

Or maybe he gets filmed in the champagne room with dollars bills in his mouth and cocaine on the table that "wasn't his"

Either way it's dumb position to put yourself in when you represent a half a billion dollar organization.

Any way...that show is perfect for Scott Gomez and Cam Janssen.
I would never let an active player in my organization do that show. Especially a young one.

What about the GM himself? Fitz was just on there a month or so ago. Dano has been on it. Patty has been on it.

It was a harmless interview if you watch it or listen to it. Nothing crazy asked, nothing crazy answered.

Let's not make mountains out of molehills.

Not really any cliffnotes from the interview it was basically all stuff that any Devils fan would know. The interview was also done just prior to the NHL awards so its a bit old.

There was a short conversation about Hamilton and Hughes doing no celebration goals during the playoffs against the rangers. anyone got any video of that?

That’s a relic of an idea. Its a player’s podcast you would be silly to not let them do it. They are actually a powerful form of media now. You definitely want to be onside with SC

The interview was shockingly nondescript, considering how long it went on.

How can someone be upset about that?

I actually agree with Jim on this one - players get a little too comfortable on some of these shows. Most players are very unpolished speakers and it's very easy for them to end up in a situation where something gets clipped out of context, and suddenly you have mess to clean up.

Not that I expect Nico Hischier to be inappropriate, he's about the most harmless player they could have picked. But there are plenty of other podcasts out there I'd prefer them to go on. I don't want to support/be associated with SC and I don't want my players to be in a position they're unprepared for.

SC is a bro podcast and if they want to have Gomez or Marty on to tell campfire stories, then sure, but I really don't want active players going on and talking about team business.

They always give everyone ample time to decide to take stuff out before posting. They have always done this, even way back when Roenick said the stuff that got him canned. But for whatever reason he left it in.

If you say something stupid/shitty "in the moment" going with vibes, it's one thing, to ponder on it and have the chance to cut it and then to decide to still leave it in, that's on you.

The "Bro" pod casts are starting to become serious forms of media now. Also didnt SC just spill the beans on things going on in Columbus that ended up getting their Head Coach fired before the season even started.

I think the players feel they have some media support with SC. I don't think SC is going to go out there and try and put an active player in a bad spot.

Now not listening to it that's each persons choice but I definitely don't think its a bad way to get your team and player exposed to more of an audience.

Do you have any examples of this? I doubt players would be so willing to go on SC if they were regularly getting tripped up and putting their feet in their mouths during the interviews.

Players are media savvy. They know how to be interesting without undermining their teammates or the team.

Edit: bolded the wrong part. F.

Plus people keep ignoring the fact that these guys love hockey players and look at them like brothers, they want nothing but the best for all of them, and most players like them. Or you can look at it cynically, they only don't want to screw over/make the players look bad for their own personal gain of getting more players on the podcast. Either way, they want the players leaving happy.

People keep acting like this is Howard Stern in the 90s where it was a big risk to go on there because of the things he would ask and it being live, anything could happen and live on forever. And that was his goal.

Yeah say what you want about SC, but they would not put a player, especially an active one, in a bad situation because of something that was said during the interview.

In the JR situation, they apparently asked him multiple times if he was sure that he wanted to leave that bit in the interview.

Even beyond Whitney and Biz being former players and understanding the balance, they have a self interest in not hanging current players out to dry.

If they started doing players dirty they'd find the pool of guys willing to go on drying up pretty quickly, I think. Pro hockey is a small world.
