I feel like I have been very vocal about my criticisms of Alex Holtz. I want to see him succeed. He had a great preseason last year, was given like one game worth of opportunity to begin to feel out the NHL game, and immediately shuffled up and down the lineup and into and out of the press box because he didn't show 'it' in his first games of the year. That is not the type of player you can do that to. If Lindy really wants to start him with Nico and Timo, he has to give Alex time to settle in, learn how to play with those two, and understand that there is probably going to be a learning curve and it won't be perfect right off the bat. You shuffle him up and down the lineup, I am pretty confident that we will see the exact same result with Holtz as last year. No confidence, no chemistry with his linemates, and probably right back to the press box. Lindy needs to be content with letting Alex make his mistakes and grow from them.

I've basically said the same things. It's hard to really have a grasp on what he is because of how he's been used. He was always going to fail with that usage. Maybe he's just not that good and is going to fail regardless but at least give your high pick who has been a great AHLer the chance to succeed in the NHL. Give him some linemates he can work with and give him consistent reps with them to work through the struggles that will present themselves.

He really should get much more opportunity this season.

For starters, he's a year older and has seemingly put in the work this offseason to make quicker decisions. Ruff also has more security this season - tough to work a rookie into a top 6 role when your job is also on the line.

Now, the playoffs seem like a given this season and I think Ruff and Fitz know that working a player with the skill set of Holtz into the lineup and getting him acclimated to the NHL this year could have a big benefit by the time Spring rolls around (mmmm....spring rolls) - I would expect them to be more patient with him this season and give him more opportunity with top players. Hopefully it pays off.

I don't think that's necessarily true. If it is, Fitz isn't doing his job :)

If, for some reason, the devils are doing terrible, you can bet Ruff will bench Holtz and focus on winning. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

halfway thru chiclets podcast, it's a good listen

nico is such a good kid (like 0 cursing), and the podcast is asking Qs at that level (pretty respectful/polite). think it's worth a watch

The SC guys can be rowdy/annoying at times, and the barstool brand is straight trash because of the owner, but I find the criticism of the SC podcast to be a little over the top. They should get a lot of goodwill for helping rid the league of Babcock.
