Unless Hellebuyck makes a complete shit show out of wanting out WPG, I can honestly see them waiting till the deadline to deal him at this point. 50% Helly becomes the best rental and they'll be contenders who'll offer up a ton for him at that point. The best thing we can hope for is he makes it clear that he wants out of WPG. Everything lines up for us being the best suitor for him, we have the assets, we would have the Stanley Cup contending roster built around him and he'd be out of the Jets division/conference.

Not to sh*t on the new guy from Finland but I would've love for us to focus on the speedy players as we did before. That gave us an edge and we're starting to bear its fruits.

Would've like a more speed centric player but the draft is far from over.

Weren't we possibly looking at snagging a pick for Graves? That must have fallen thru, or maybe something will pop up in the 4th or 5th round.

The fact that he makes nothing is why Vegas isn't going to move him, I think. You'd have to way overpay

Think it more has to do with Thompson himself wanting to be a definite #1 somewhere else. I can definitely see a team like Ottawa taking a swing on him.

my number 1 crush is swayman. needs a new contract but he’s young and he’s incredible. if boston isn’t finding suitors for ullmark they’ll probably look to move him. we’d need to find a team to take vanecek (should be easy enough). I wonder what kind of trade package would have to go back the other way.

does holtz+ get the tires rolling?

Which is your number 1 crush, would you say? How about his age and your overall sentiment about him? Do you think Boston would move him, if so why? Would we need to do anything to do this?

What do you think would get the tires rolling?

So at the draft interview Fitz made the comment about perhaps making changes on the wing. Am I reading that as an oblique comment on Boquist and/or Bastian coming in high on a contract demand? Given the Bratt and Meier signings and the Toffoli trade and Fitz's comments about loving Mercer it's hard to see any obvious wing changes for this season in the top six.

I'd always keep in mind that this league has a long history of exciting rookie goalies who never quite get back to their peak.

I don't think this is true necessarily, it's just easier to remember guys for whom this is true whereas someone that peaks in their 4th season is less interesting. I think the phenomenon of the flash in the pan rookie goaltender has mostly gone away in this era, with Blackwood being a notable exception.

Prob want a vet with a bit more physicality instead of Boq

The only problem is that i don't think teams ever really love rental goalies that they have to rely on.

So without our 2nd in play now Hellebyuck will be harder to acquire, as we dont have a 1st or 2nd thats movable next year (both have restrictions due to the SJ trade)

Wasn't necessarily referring to flash in the pan, like Steve Mason or Jim Carey, but I get what you mean.

Binnington and Murray? Still solid careers, sure, and there is time to go on another run, but if you had given up a hefty price to grab them after year one, you were not rewarded with a franchise guy in the vein of Vasilevsky, Rinne, etc. Obviously injuries play a role in scenarios like that but to me, it's a pro scouting judgment call as far as giving up assets for a smaller track record. Seems riskier relative to the age concerns of an established guy.

Fitz's comments about the RFAs is a bit baffling to me. I know I'm senile but still. According to the cap friendly calculator the qualifying offers for the RFAs are all less than $1 mil except for McLeod who is at $1 mil if my eyes aren't failing, which they might be.
Only way it makes much sense is if he's planning on eating up a large sum of that ~10m in cap left in a goalie or a higher-priced winger to round out the top-9

Normally their QO's arent an issue; but if each is pushing a million, for a team fighting for hundred's of thousands to make another deal or two, I can see the impasse
