Marek said it seems like the Canes have moved on from Patches

I don't blame them. That's a tough injury to come back from, and there's no guarantee that he'll be anywhere close to the same player. I think a lot of teams will be wary of committing significant money or term to a guy in that situation.

Please don't get upset if Jack , Nico or Lindy don't win any of the awards they were nominated for.

The Bruins having a historic (regular) season and the Kraken shooting up the standings while winning a playoff round in year 2 is impressive.

Bergeron had another dominant year at like age 37 , his defensive metrics were top notch as usual. Marner being a winger nominated is pretty impressive , wingers don't usually get nominated.

Kopitar and Point both had really good years , are leaned on more defensively and had only 4 and 7 penalty minutes respectively. Which is pretty wild.

I'm just glad our guys had good years and are getting the recognition they deserve.

Yeah I wonder if he’s looking for too much right now but then when UFA hits nobody is really offering him that much and he has to lower his expectations

Nico getting Selke recognition is big in itself. I’m sure he’ll get 1 in the coming years.

Jack will win the Lady Byng

Don’t tell me what to do. I’m burning this whole place down if Jack gets f***ed out of the Lady Bing.

I'm already mad at the thought of them not winning. They better sweep the awards or else.

I'm convinced that no NHL player actually wants to win the Lady Byng.

Would have been funny if Hughes deliberately picked up a fighting major in the last week of the season just so that he would be thought ineligible by the voters.

It’s a good sportsmanship award and that’s fine, and while it’s the least exciting trophy, it’s a trophy.

And it doesn’t always go to the least guy with PIMs (though Kopitar is long time Bing vote fav so he’s probably the favorite this year).

The Masteron is probably the worst when you think about it. It's basically a who's had the most trauma award, which I get with they're doing but at the same time I feel like there's a better way to mention it, lol.

To be fair, the Masteron is for the player who most inspired others by overcoming the most trauma award. It’s heartwarming and shit.

I am now officially on team Acquire Hellebuyck.

Coming off the cap this and next offseason:

Blackwood, Vanecek, Schneider Buyout, Kuokkanen Buyout, Kovalchuk penalty= $8,775,000 in cap space.

Without even thinking about how much the cap may go up, if Hellebuyck would take 7.5/year for a 3/4 year extension we are significantly upgrading the goaltending position with one of the best in the league.... and actually saving cap space.
I agree with you . We could use that cap on a D or forward but our D is looking stacked and no room or need for a highish end player as we have better value with what we currently have .
And for forwards , we already don’t have enough roster spots for some guys. Only place an upgrade is really needed is 3C , but Helle is a far better influential upgrade than a 3C I think.
Its adding an elite goalie using found money.

Vanecek doesn't come off next offseason, it's the offseason after that.

Though a trade for Hellebuyck presumably sends Vanecek the other way.

He’s not signing a 3-4 year/7.5m deal though.

I would take him on that too but there’s no way that’s even remotely happening.

You aren’t getting him that low while giving him no term. It’s not happening.

And he’s not signing for 3-4 years either. Kuemper was 32 when he signed and he got 5 years despite injuries/decline.

Less term is 6 years at most and he’s not taking less than 8m. And less term means a higher AAV.

Don’t fantasize a contract you like here, it’s a UFA deal for a superstar goalie. It’s going to be huge and ugly. Not 9.5m isn’t 7.5m, it’s 8.5m and he’s getting a lot of term.
I dunno man . There is a surplus of goalies available. Plus most teams that he would be willing to extend with , already capped out. Supply and demand. Now is the time to try to get him if you are a buyer .
The 7.5 m might be a little low but not impossible. What contender can offer him 8.5 + ? I can’t think of anyone expect for rhe Hurricanes , and they never spend on goalies and never go long term.
Helle can ask for 8.5 + all he wants but he isn’t going to get it if he wants a contender .
If Helle or Saros is out , I wouldn’t mind looking at Vladar .Not as a starter of course , just as a backup and AHL option and habe competition between Schmid VV Vladar. However, I’m not too pumped with that trio to see if they can perform in the playoffs. Our window is just starting but I,don’twant to waste a year if our goalies can’t perform in the playoffs.

If not Helly this year, I'd go into the year with Vitek and Schmid. If a goalie wiggles their way onto the trade block next year then make the move then. Reminder our 2024 first still has a condition in the Timo trade, I believe.

I don't think it makes sense for us to give up something of value for Hellebuyck for just one season. And I don't think it makes sense for us to extend him at the price/term it would take. So in short, I don't think Devils should pursue Hellebuyck.
