Josh Anderson is peak territory that may never be revisited.

———

Anderson fan: Anderson fits the bill. How about a first and a mid-prospect for him?

Other team fan: No…I think of Anderson as more of a cap dump with negative value.

Anderson fan: What?!?! There is a bidding war for him going on in the NHL. Anderson is everything GMs want. We are just lucky enough our GM isn’t stupid enough to trade him.

———

That conversation done a million times.

A player who actually has value just can’t get there.

At least they're not offering Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd for literally any player anymore.

If only because Ryder has long since retired, but still.

I don't get the Hellebuyck stuff. I've yet to see a realistic proposal that makes any sense. We don't even have a first.

Every contender can add him at 50% retained, he's going to cost a fortune.

Most contenders have no interest because they already have a goalie. I don't know who you consider contenders, but CAR, VGK, FLA, DAL are out - those are the top 4 from last year. NYR, NYI, BOS, EDM likely have no interest, either from lack of cap room or lack of assets or lack of space for a goalie. SEA can do it, would they? Colorado has room but do they have interest, and do they have the assets? St. Louis could do it but it feels like their time to do it would've been before the draft. There's just not that many teams who could do it.

Most of their fanbase is taking pot shots at us and the Sabres for running it back with younger goalies in hopes we're somehow convinced with their argument to trade a haul for Hellebuyck so I couldn't care less, lol. And I mean, that's majority of the small market teams. We've heard that all the time until Dougie broke the mold recently. The only person to feel slightly bad for is Chevydaloff since he makes actual good teams there and no one wants to stay in the Canada's Columbus, Ohio.
Cheveldayoff? Does he?

The Jets were good for like one season, and beyond that just aggressively mid.

I'm bored

Boucher had a wicked shot and a knack for getting to soft areas of the ice to launch it, but that's about it. Holtz is a better skater, and a far better playmaker. I don't think it's at all reasonable to compare the two.

Holtz's inconsistent hockey sense and lack of defensive awareness are what are holding him back right now. Boucher's issues were that he couldn't put his tools together at the NHL level. And also he was credibly accused of being a rapist, which tends to put a damper on things.
Putting everything else aside, Boucher's release was way too slow. If he'd had a faster release on his shot, he would have been a quality NHL goal scorer.

Seems like NJ is giving Hatakka a chance to prove he's healthy. He missed all but the first 8 games last season. He came here in the trade and was supposed to be ready by the end of the season. Didn't happen.

Hatakka and Vilen on the backside.
Stillman up front.*
Brennan and Poulter in net.

Those 5 will be Comets with Poulter and Brennan battling each other to stay out of Adirondack. Rookie Brennan is my bet for the 1st stint with the Thunder.

Parent played well for the Comets at the end of the season and will be busting his butt to stay there this season.

Engaras and Middendorf are listed with Utica by elite prospects, but that's purely because theyare on AHL contracts. Most likely both end up in Adirondack.

Other than that there don't appear top be any players not already slated for NCAA slots or teams back home in Europe.

When top 1st round draft selections aren't there for the fans to ooh and ahh about or nobody is fighting for their playing lives, a camp like this doesn't raise a lot of attention. These prospects have some place to go and NJ pretty much already knows what they have with all but the newbies, who won't be turning pro for at least another year and some will take 2 based upon Canadian Jr. rules.

*Stillman is out for any on ice activity. Recovering from deviated septum.

I think he's done pretty well roster wise tbh, a lot of the players just decide to shit their pants in the biggest spots. Doesn't help Wheeler become a cancerous captain too but maybe that's on management for not being closer to these players. His trades have been pretty tremendous and they don't really attract much in UFA.

I still don't really buy that. They are definition of a mushy-middle team. I can't really ascertain any vision Chevy has for the club, other than "hang around".
